I took a comment from one owner, do Audi really not cares about realibility issues? I know that this is a Audi forum and there wont be any truth only whining how audi is cool among f10 m5, I also red that when you buy new Audi its covered with warranty but if you buy used Audi (for example 3 years old) there can be problems with turbos, discs etc and Audi is more expensive to maintain than Bmw m5

Not my experience
Since 1999 i have owned 7 A4s (stanard trim, 2x s4, 2x rs4) and i have not had a single reliability issue. Nada, nothing, zip.

"I currently have a 2009 Audi RS6. Standard 580 BHP. Warranty runs out in about 5 months. Have recently put new tyres, discs and pads all round at the cost of £3,000.
I am aware that if I have an issue with oil seals/turbo seals, its gonna cost me a pretty penny to fix the RS6 as with the RS6's its often an engine out job, which is costly.
I am thinking of getting a 2013 BMW M5 and wanted to ask about the COST OF OWNERSHIP. A good friend over here in Dubai who runs a service centre for BMW, Audi and Porsche has said that the M5 is considerably cheaper to run servicing and mechanics wise. Its also easier to work on than the Audi, which often means dropping the engine to fix small oil leaks. (I already had the turbo seal done once)
Things I love about the RS6:
- The way it looks
- The interior is the best in class, by far.
- The size of it for the kids and the luggage space
- Its rapid
Things I like about the M5:
- I love the matt Silver with the Silverstone Leather interior. Looks nice in this colour
- The apparently lower maintenance costs
- I already have a BMW E30 M3 and therefore like the BMW's already
- Its also rapid
What you recon? Any thoughts, suggestions, recommendations, advice on cost of ownership compared to the RS6.

Audi is more expensive to maintain? Depends on the model, the V10 M5 had some horrendous stories of big bills.
Audi is not reliable? I've not had any issues.
If you buy your used Audi from Audi you get a 1 year warranty (if the original warranty has expired).

Disc pads and tyres will be expensive on the Audi, but how much cheaper are they for an M5.
The above comparison is comparing the new M5 against the old RS6. The new RS6 is a different beast.

I had a M5 a few years ago - 3 yrs old with extended BMW warranty - the car broke down on me more times then it worked - serious issues such as petrol leaking in the engine, suspension failure, vanos failure. Thankfully it was on extended warranty. I had an E63AMG and a 535d both excellent cars. Sometimes you are unlucky with a car. Hence why you limit that risk by getting a new one or extend the warranty.
FFS you post a comment about how unreliable the RS6, its crap and how great the BMW is - go forth an get an M5 then.
us your own brain and decide for yourself, I presume you are old then 18. You can find anything on the web saying this or that. It sounds like you can't afford to run the RS6 - nothing wrong with that but equally you wont be able to run an M5. S

Lol but thanks for the post, I am old enough, don't be an angry , I am not saying m5 is cheaper To maintain, I took both post above from another forum it's not my thinking, after reading dozen forums about new 2013 rs6 I am little concerned how 3 year old car with 56.000 km will go what issues I can struggle, yes I can't afford new Audi thats why I am looking for used but in good conditions car, I think that I can find good one because I want big space for my kids and to have some nice hp under the hood!superlightr wrote:extend the RS6 warranty.

Recently I almost bought used 2012 f10 m5 but I changed my mind, now I want some objective opinion from Audi enthusiasts pros and cons

If you are lucky and nothing goes wrong, a 3 year old 50km car RS will cost a lot (tyres, petrol, brakes, servicing etc) . If you are unlucky and things go wrong it will cost a large fortune. This is not a cheap car to run.
If you are worried about running costs then look elsewhere or take the risk. Anyone that tells you it is cheap to run is lying.

Quite right Mike - this is a car for the big bank accts; depreciation, parts, fuel, tax, etc are big. Man logic offsets that against performance, looks, and enjoyment. I'd not say their's any difference in reliability or running cost between the C7 RS6 & F10 M5. Not owned a C7 RS6 but have owned a few RS's & they all had issues ranging from the well documented DRC failures on the B7 RS4 & 2 new transmissions on my C5 RS6. That said i also had a failed transmission in my E60 M5 & my 1st F10 M5 was rejected after 7 months due to what i later found out to be contaminants in the fuel rail causing the injectors to get blocked under WOT, this was later found to be a bad batch. The replacement has been rock solid & now has been significantly enhanced performance wise & still not a single issue (hope that statement doesn't bite me).
They're both big, heavy fast cars so consumables such as pads/discs/tyres are going to take a hammering on the road & be crucified on track. I've gone through 2 sets of rear pads, one set of front pads, one set of tyres all round & my front discs will need replacing very soon. That said i've attended many track days so personally i think that's exceptional usage rates over 21k miles. I DON'T get main dealers to replace consumables so the costs are not high, full set of rear pads are £100 supply & fit with front pads closer to £300 (£800 for Pagid RS29) & tyres are around £1k for a full set of MPSS.
Perhaps in Dubai due to different maintenance cost structures & vastly different conditions, the M5 may be cheaper to maintain (i doubt it though), but that's certainly not the case in the UK.

Discussing reliability of a 3 year old 50km car is pretty funny to all of us with 13+ year old and 200+km cars!
Just choose if you want it or not and then enjoy it. You shouldn't base your life on what others say. And as Mike said, you can be unlucky with any car. Also keep in mind 99% of forum posts are because someone has an issue, whereas people that are happily enjoying their cars aren't likely to come on the forum to say about how their car's been working fine.
