Home garages.

Post by RossDagley » Tue Dec 22, 2015 1:42 am

So. I like to tinker, but I've just bought myself a half height ramp which I'm already in love with. Will make detailing a pleasure not a chore and wheel swaps / servicing my other cars a doddle.

Thought I'd share a couple of pics and see what other cool stuff people might have I can magpie ideas from!

That's frikkin amazing! :rocker: You even have a mahoosive telly in there!? I don't think my wife and kids would see me much if I had a garage like that.

What ceiling height do you need to get away with the lift? I plan to build our own home one day, and a massive garage is on the list of priorities. My garage is too small and stacked full of crap to even contemplate it at the moment.

Not anywhere near as good, or even car related, but the best I've done is that I did give our "summerhouse" (another area for storage of crap) a bit of a makeover after clearing out all the junk.

Thanks! Yeah it's a 50" plasma with apple TV etc. Jolly nice for watching a movie or something whilst tinkering on a project :)

Headroom wise, I've got a half height lift so the photo of the RS4 on the ramp is at max height - and I've got about 9 inches of clearance to the rafters there. Obviously with a bigger car (the wife's mazda CX-5 etc) I'd have to be careful not to touch but it's plenty high so as I'm not on my back under axle stands as I'm far to old and fat for that malarky now :biggrin2:

This is technically a movable ramp (doesn't need to be bolted down and has little wheels you can insert to move it around) but it's a heavy old thing so I'll not be doing that much. More to the point it can come with me easy enough to a new house - although I'd really like a proper two poster next and full height.

Just need iracing on a triple screen setup now and the wife would never see me either - although she'd argue that's her ideal situation I'd wager :biggrin3:

That is so cool. And they do one with a higher lift too.

Ross, how much clearance do you have between your car and the lift in the lowered position? i.e. if your car was lowered would you still be able to use it?

That's a proper job you've done there, excellent. Loving the lift as well.

Must sort my bomb hole out, house renovation has kind of taken over the workshop and the last 18months

Thanks :)

Mike - next to nothing unfortunately. It's 105mm tall from the ground. To use this with a lowered car you'd need to put (say) some wood at the front and end of both ramps to give you a few cm extra height. Alternatively you could sink the ramp into the floor - something I am loosely considering now.

And Sam - you may have a mess there but you've also a lovely motor hiding round the corner ;)

:nodder: old school piss n slippers.

Thanks, unfortunately I only part own that one. It's no concours car, just a nice solid runner which keeps me tinkering.

Would you be happy to work under that car lift Ross? I'm really quite tempted with one of those.

Home garages.

Yep id be perfectly happy under it as is. My floor isn't mirror level but isn't terrible - if it was any less flat id want to sort that. If you're in any way sceptical then you can bolt it to the floor - it has fittings for it. That should ensure it doesn't ever budge at all :)

Just found some 10w LED floodlights spare in the cupboard (I bought loads for highlighting defects when detailing) - offered them up and they're less than 10cm 'fat'. Meaning I can bolt them to the ramp pointing upwards - so when a car's on it, it'll be illuminated. Next project!...
