Av help required!

Post by swannny » Fri Dec 18, 2015 11:46 pm

I know there's some knowledgable guys on here with some nice toys in their house, so I'm asking for your help please!

I have all my av in an enclosed cupboard, including 2 sky boxes, my problem is that the infa red bounces off the door and turns them both over.
Is there any material that I can cover the door to stop the infa red bounce?

Thanks chaps!

Hi, thanks for the reply.

I am,

It all runs through a matrix, so if I'm in the lounge watching sky, and someone upstairs is watching stuff on the other sky box, when they click through the channels it turns both sky boxes over. If I leave the av cupboard door open then it's ok.

Dora is not that bad!

Crude, but how about enclosing the sky box I/R receiver areas on each box with tin foil?

I did think about that, but the only way I can get ventilation is through the front, so I think they'd overheat?

I've googled for hours( not at porn before chunk pipes up!) but I can't seem to find anything.

How about the IR senders you stick to the receiver on the front of the sky box?

Or how about controlling the sky box via the RF2 socket on the back? If you use a sky eye it will send the control down the RF2 cable and only control the box iti is connected to?

Can't you just have the other sky box upstairs Lee, or is it to stop wiring on the outside of the house?

There both upstairs in a cupboard, here's a pic of the cupboard I'm having the trouble with,

They all have the infrared senders which are what are bouncing back to each other.

I'm with Mike, you can feed RF2 with the IR signal. You can get a jobby that'll take an IR signal from a 3.5mm connection and feed it to the RF connection.

Cheers! There's another cupboard with more Sonos and gizmos in it too..love the man toys!

I might try the Matt wrap thing, nothing better than pimping out the cupboard even more! I'm not sure the matrix will accept any other ir signal other than the ir extenders it supplies as it distributes the TV and the ir around the house over cat 6 to each TV.

I'll try wrapping the door! Thanks chaps it is really getting on my nerves, and I don't want to miss the queens speech Christmas Day!

Those IR senders look like standard stuff, what do they connect to? Bet there's a 3.5mm jack on the other end.....

You need the IR senders that stick to the front of the sky box, not send the signal to bounce off the door. Alternatively, put one sky box at the bottom and one at the top and if that doesn't work try and place something between the 2 shelves to block the signal.

Sky boxes and IR senders don't mix that well, there's no defined point on the front of the STB. Plumbing it in direct is the best solution, as I found.
