ah ok, not just me who don't like them then.
Bridgestones were just as bad I found, fine at first when new but then seemed to glaze over or something and lose grip within months? (and theres no denying their R&D budget either, but still not a tyre I would want again).

I think you'd have a hard time finding a tyre that matches the pilot super sports for grip, the price isn't bad either from an online supplier like tyre leader.

I've got a winter set of wheels with mismatched tyres at the mo, 6 year old bridgestone RE050's on the rear which are hilariously slippery, and super sports on the front, even in the cold and wet they're pretty good.

Have to be honest I ended up getting P ZERO this year as I couldn't get PSS for mine and after 35 laps of Brunters this year I am as surprised as anyone to say they had more grip in the corners. It was a dry day and I am more than happy with them.

The tombstone RE050A are OK on lighter cars. Terrible on the RS6.

The PSS are OK when it's warm and dry. I've got them on the rear of the M3 at the moment and it's comical verging on dangerous in damp sub-10 degrees weather.

Looks like the R01 is the thing of the past for the PS2. The M01 Mercedes spec looks like it might be similar. I will just have to try them next time.

I am disappointed the R01 is gone :( I can't even find the PS2 in general, R01 or not. Looks like my choice will be Goodyear Eagles when winter is out the way.

No way of knowing for sure. I'd certainly take a punt, especially if El knobbo is out of the picture. They have the same grip ratings as the R01 (IIRC) so hopefully they are the same as the R01.

I still don't understand why the EU eco mentalists insisted on removing THE two most important ratings from all tyres and replace them with utterly irrelevant ones like 'noise' and 'threat to fluffy bunnies' instead.?!

Dry grip
and Wear rate.

From those I knew how good the compound is.

The ONLY useful rating left on tyres is wet grip, and to be honest, if its raining, I tend to just slow down a little.. cos it 'may be slippery'.

You're far too sensible to be posting in a "What tyres" thread...

Did you get the Merc spec PS2 in the end? If so, how did they fit?

I've got them, unfortunately they are just sat in my house at the minute for a whole world of reasons.

Wheels should be getting refurbed next week, so will be getting the tyres chucked on then. the missus hates my man maths!!

I just got a full set of Eagle F1s for £550 fitted, 255/35/19s. BT Tyres in Rugby, Ross who runs the place has a B5 RS4 with BIG power! He did my last set that lasted me 20k miles. Best tyre imo
