Had the RS hijacked at gun point.
Re: Had the RS hijacked at gun point.
Just waiting now for a new forum member under the name FatFrank3 to start a thread asking for advice on how Advanced Key works as he's "just got the car and the previous owner didn't pass the owner's manual over during the handover".
Re: Had the RS hijacked at gun point.
stolen to order and on a boat out of the UK
On sunday I was out in the wet in my 550PS RWD F-TYPE and a quattro TDI A7 was travelling at the speed of light and I had no chance of keeping up ... I can only assume it was 3.0TDI and it just showed how effective quattro is in those conditions.
re. trackers - all moderns cars now need to have a SIM card by law (to call 999 when you crash) which allow remote start etc, and so its a simple evolution of this which will allow remote disablement like iPhones.

Re: Had the RS hijacked at gun point.
Eddie, consider a 6/12 month old A4 Avant 3.0 TDI quattro (debadged, not a black edition, no 19s) - much more stealthy than a new A6 bi-tdiMikeFish wrote:At least with 3 robberies they have more chance of getting caught!! And it will be higher up the police's priority list than if it was a one off. But it makes me think you are no safer in your tdi.

It will also open the door for hackers to take control of the vehicle or part of it (as has been reported in the last couple of months). This has always been the case with car thefts, the car companies are always one step behind. As an example, BMW claimed for a looong period of time that there cars where impossible to steal without the key, at the same time there was several videos on YouTube showing the gadgets needed and how to do it.HYFR wrote:stolen to order and on a boat out of the UK

Indeed. Wasn't it Jeep who were the subject of a vehicle being hacked in America and driven by a hacker with a laptop? If you can drive / take control a car from a laptop, should be a piece of piss to merely unlock a car

Thank you Ian. Noted and loggedIanH755 wrote:Mark - It all depends on what you've done to the pic before you upload it.
1. If it's straight from the camera then it's got quite a lot of Metadata which can give a very accurate location, especially pics from GPS enabled smart-phones.
2. If you resize it in some editing software but only click "Save" then it's just a smaller version of the original and it still has all the Metadata.
3. If you use Copy/Paste to make a new version of the picture it copys the Metadata too.
The best way is to open the original in an editing program (MS Paint will do) and then click "Save As" and type in a new name so it's a completely new file. This new picture has no Metadata - Thats what I do before I upload anything, plus remove plates etc.

Or just turn off the geo tagging on your phone.Markp wrote:Thank you Ian. Noted and loggedIanH755 wrote:Mark - It all depends on what you've done to the pic before you upload it.

What's the difference? You no longer want to own an RS6 or you're better off taking the cash equivalent?Eddie555 wrote:Aviva update guys.
They have been top class. Offered me a brand new replacement (erm no thanks) or a pay out. I'll take the pay out PLEASE.
GAP insurance will return back to invoice price usually which would be the same as a replacement car i would have thought?

Re: Had the RS hijacked at gun point.
I don't want a replacement RS6. I ain't going through that nightmare again. In my experience theives go back and check out what's been replaced. Back in day when I worked for Toad Plc I would always be going back to cars that I'd replaced high end audio to cause the theives know that they're gonna get brand new stuff replaced. I once went back to a car 4 times replacing his Alpine flip out headunit until he finally sold the car cause his insurance premiums went through the roof.
Thanks but no thanks. My RS days are done. Same as back in 2000 when my ex nearly got hijacked from our new scooby. I sold that straight away and bought a BMW 330d sport touring. I should have learnt then really never to buy superduper thief desirable cars.
Well all I can say is been there done that got the T'shirt. NEXT!!!

Really sorry to hear about what happened you mate. You 100% done the right thing, I would do the same, I love my car but it's not worth being killed over or seriously injured.Eddie555 wrote:I don't want a replacement RS6. It's really sad that you won't buy another rs, I know where your coming from, I just think it's sad that these <beep> have affected your choice of car.
Enjoy Christmas with your family and hopefully in the new year you'll have come back to our way of thinking and get back behind the wheel of a rs!

100% it's really terrible that they're stopping you from having a high end car. I do completely get it mate and I really don't blame the way you feel. But properly gutting!
Maybe we could have the first forum lynching if they're caught!

Christmas won't be spoilt by this petty situation!! New Years will be enjoyed also. Baby Princess Isabella is booked to arrive on the 7th Jan ( I can't wait).
And the only RS I'm gonna be hunting down to buy/drive is a 1980's one.
