Where can I work on my car

Post by SuprSi » Fri Dec 11, 2015 11:31 am

I'm scrounging around for places where you can hire a work bay with a 2/4 post lift. I'm in Southampton. I'm not sure if this just doesn't exist or if I'm searching using the wrong words or something but I can't find anything out there.

My mate is a good mechanic and is happy to help me fix my alternatrix and radiator fan problems, only issue is it's likely going to take a whole day and working out in the cold with jacks and axle stands doesn't sound like a lot of fun, and it's likely to get dark before we're finished. I was tempted to just drop a load of cash to get MRC to fix it but if I can avoid paying ~£500+ for labour it'd be nice to put it towards the paint job.

Hi mate,

Would be a great idea to hire a Shop with a 2 or 4 post lift, I would love to have a go at doing my clutch

But can you image the elf and saf'y issues let alone insurance reasons ... It's never going to happen

Cars rolling off ramps, chopping limbs off, fires, crushing etc

A while back some guy up in Scotland where he found a garage that would do the job and reduced the costs with him helping, now that's a good idea, so they all the tools you will need, it's inside, the lift and you get to see what's happening on your car

Good luck :blackrs4: :biggrin3:

Not sure if you've seen this Si but there's a place in Acton.

Cheers everyone.

Yeah I can only imagine the liability issues. I hate the whole blame culture, it ruins everything :(

That looks pretty good Sam, good spot. It'd be worth going to London if I can get this sorted.

This place in Bristol looks interesting - as well as self service bays/ramps (and mechanics available to assist), you can also hire a spray booth...!! What could possibly go wrong? ;)

Brilliant,

changing my exhaust centre sections took me 2 days putting the car on ramps and axle stands, would have taken a couple of hours with a four poster

Just cannot believe in today's health and safety over kill this is available

I use these guys a LOT!
I go there for all my cars and mates' cars we work on.
cheap.... £20 for 2 hours (minimum hire) and £10 per hour after that.
Also have FREE tool hire, and a direct link to Euro Car Parts delivery, etc.
Moreover, have use of their in-house mechanic if you want it too!
Usually gives advice for free. Never been charged yet, but have also never left without buying him a coffee or burger etc!!!!
Recommended, but it's a bit of a drive for you!
I've finally got my head together but now my body is falling apart!
