I recently decided to stop driving my s4 as my an every day car. Having it parked in the street meant it kept getting scratches etc so i retired it to my dads driveway. I have been driving a 1.1 saxo for the last four weeks (loving the mpg).
Yesterday i remembered that i hadnt moved the s for almost 4 weeks so i decided to take it for a spin, when i got to the car i noticed that the battery had died (no flashing alarm lights). Luckily it was parked up in my dads driveway and he had a car battery charger handy. After about a few hours of charging i was able to start the car up. What i noticed though was that on the first couple of attempts to start the car nothing happened, the lights etc came on but the DIS was showing a big red exclamation mark. I removed the key and tried again, same thing. On the third attempt the engine started up.
I then remembered reading that there was a procedure you had to follow when the ecu had been disconnected for a certain period of time.
I took the car for a spin and everything seemed fine exept my date /time have reset to 1st jan 1999.
Is there something i should have done when i first tried to start the engine, i remember something about a throttle adaptation?

RE: Dead battery
Throttle adaption is the only thing I remember. It should not be a problem because there's no reason why the settings should have changed. However you can allow the TA to happen automatically: Just turn on the ignition but don't start the engine and don't touch the accelerator pedal. Leave it that way for about 10-15 mins (I don't remember what the official time is) and it will have done a TA.
