issues after carbon cleaning

Post by bond1407 » Wed Dec 02, 2015 3:45 pm

hi everybody new to the forum and hoping to pick some brains on here. recently the cars been putting the engine management light on so decided to take the plunge and have it carbon cleaned. being relatively good with the spanners I decided to strip the car myself, but have the cleaning done at a performance specialist who have recently done one of these. so after a bit of sore knuckle action I removed the manifold and sent the car to be cleaned whilst I retained the manifold and cleaned myself, so far so good! after picking the car back up it was time to put it back together, whilst the valves weren't spotless most of the big bits of carbon had gone. having re assembled it upon start up the car has a very slight misfire and I just put it down to any deposits left clearing themselves. having ran the car around for half hour this misfire became worse and the car started to smoke, ten times worse over say 3k revs so I parked it back up. I did scan it and it came up with a few fault codes including an inlet manifold fault and a cylinder 8 misfire, finally got round to looking at it properly last night and theres loads of oil in the inlet manifold now I'm trying to figure out if its something I may have done wrong in reassembly or something the garage could have caused when cleaning. any thoughts will be greatly appreciated

Who was the 'performance specialist' who cleaned it?
Believe only the man who has nothing to gain from what he says.

It's possible you have damaged the oil seals, or alternatively had a lump of carbon drop into a cylinder a damage a ring. Does it smoke oil more under load or on coast down in gear?
