Collect the RS car last night

Post by Paulm » Sat Nov 28, 2015 4:40 pm

Taking it easy but pretty impressed so far.

The LED lights are awesome, especially the way they adjust to oncoming traffic and following traffic in full beam. Really cool.

Virtually no wind noise. The 2014 demo car was a bit annoying.

With the additional sound proofing the exhaust is very quiet. Deffo worth getting the sport exhaust. Does not bother me as I will go Milltek anyway so will be plenty loud enough.

Not ragged it yet only done 60 miles so far, it but feels quick though, had it a bit sideways already (not on purpose) loads of torque of slippy roads

Was worried re the 20" wheels but seeing the car I am more than happy. Will try and lower it but as you can see its pretty low anyway. I like the retro RS look so intend lowering it a bit more and add spacers to 100% fill the arches.

looking forward to playing with this one.

Looks good mate, best colour

For Milltek, they were doing upto 30% off their systems as of yesterday, you may still catch the tail end of the Black Friday sales if you are lucky. Contact revolution on here, they posted in the for sale section about Black Friday, I just ordered the downpipes and got a great price from them. As you say, the standard exhaust with all the soundproofing is quiet, Milltek will sort that out, better path to go down than ticking the £1k sports exhaust option I think

Nice plate.

I prefer the look of the 20 inch wheels just a shame they don't do the same style in 21".

How much is the milltek for the C7?

The catback section retails at around £1750-£1850 (non res/resonated)

The downpipes and 2nd cat bypass pipes (decatted) retails at between £850-£1350 dependent on what options on the downpipes you choose (2.75 inch uncoated / 3 inch coated)

You can also buy these with the cats which cost silly money (Full system £3.7-3.9k)

Cheapest path is the non res catback at around £1750 and the 2.75 inch uncoated downpipes at £850 minus around 10% normally but upto 25-30% with the Black Friday deals.

The Milltek catback is 2.75inch for example so even if you do opt for the bigger 3' downpipes, they essentially come back into 2.75' in the catback section.

You could also buy the 2.75 inch downpipe from regal autosport for £750 at the moment where they modify the downpipe to mate to the standard catback section (Milltek have designed the downpipe not to fit the standard exhaust). This is the cheapest path to Stage 2 gains but may not do much for the noise hence the catback requirement. (Standard exhaust is 2.5 inch all the way through so with the regal modified downpipe it will be 2.75 coming down to 2.5)

If it's purely sound you're after, does the OEM exhaust have a centre resonator? If so, has anyone tried chopping it out for a bit of straight pipe?

The OEM exhaust is unfortunately one piece to the downpipes. It needs hacking to even transport it home :(

Yes, 2 primary cats, followed by 2 secondary cats, followed by centre resonater followed by the 2 valved backboxes. Quite a lot of restrictions in the setup hence the large 50hp gains available from the exhaust.

I'd be tempted to cut out and weld some pipe on place of the centre resonator in the first instance for a better sound, then when ready for a remap cut out the secondary cats for a power gain. The money you save on the milltek will more than cover the cost of the exhaust mods and a decent remap.

Thanks Lads.

Enjoy the car mate looks spot on. I'm liking the 20" wheels the more and more I look at them. I went for the 21" black wheels but might get a set of the 20's with some winter tyres on.

By the sounds of it you have some big plans for the car, I'm looking forward to following your progress with it and see how you tune and tweak it to get the power output your aiming for. Make sure you keep us posted nothing like a good build thread.

I love the wheels and like Mike said if they did them in 21" I think it would be the ultimate for the RS6, but thats my old school look coming out again

Yeah will do a DIY type thread.

I did a DIY build threat on my GTR.

Will do something similar with the RS. Bigger turbos will be loads easier (no engine out job) but it sounds like intercooler piping and flow will be the issue with the RS. Whatever it will be fun.
