Private Plates

Post by Daz B » Mon Nov 23, 2015 11:31 am

Hi all,

looking at putting a private plate on my RS4 (5 digits) but think the front plate holder will look too big as I want to put a small plate on, I have read about people cutting the holder down the only trouble is re selling the car is their any options out there.

Thanks Daz

Hi Daz this topics been covered before if u search forum
! Argon creative I think they're called around the Newcastle area have a mould and make a small one but sure it's only 310 mm long not that it's a bad length but sure it will prob only do a 4 digit max plate !! Some folks have just removed holder and fixed plate direct !! There's also plate holders from across the continents and the states ! I managed to get one of these and never used it as it was right length but not tall enough for the letters . If u had to buy a replacement on selling car there circa £100 hope this helps

Hi Daz
I cut my one to fit 5 digits. I bough a replacement plate holder from Audi for £60 before I started cutting.

I took the plate holder off and fixed new shorter plate direct to the grille,

I think 5 digits looks ok on a full plate. Custom plate with extra info, black border and a couple of extra spaces.

To be honest i don't think it looks right there. I see what you're doing in trying to retain a tidy front end, but plates in the windscreen smacks of it's a car for sale as that's often where trade plates go & my OCD would be working overdrive as i like a spotless interior so a plate on the dash would drive me nuts (perhaps that's just me).

Totally agree, I've been driving around like that (correctly spaced) on my Audis since 2002 and never once thought it needed "adjusting", nor has anyone ever commented.
I do have the GB/Euro symbol on the left which does make the white space slightly less.

Get the hacksaw out - shorter plates work better IMO both front and back even for a six digit plate :bigblink:

Short plates look ok on the front but poor on the back IMHO, it looks like there is soemthing missing, like its not made to fit the car.

Plates on the dash are not nice, its also illegal. I couldn't bring myself to drive with anything on the dash let alone a number plate.

Of course, each to there own, we are all induviduals.
