Xenon head light adjust

Post by boombastik » Fri Nov 13, 2015 9:41 pm

Can someone help or point me in the direction of adjusting headlights thru VCDS.

I fitted a new plug to the headlight level sensor and cleared codes all was fine and I put the wheel on and lower the car and scan it and the code is back again, and while checking values etc I must have changed something and ended up with a second fault.

00496 & 01539 implausible signal on level sensor and headlights not adjusted

The first fault started after I had the subframe removed for the clutch and obviously it was unplugged before then it was fine

To adjust the headlights you go on to 55 Headlight Range, then click basic settings and a screen should pop up, iirc you press next at the top right and it will say something like preparing headlights or something, give it a few seconds and press next again and it will say adjust headlights. Now you go under the bonnet and use an allen key to turn the little white adjusters on the headlight to the desired position, once you've done that press next again and its done.

Not sure if that will get rid of the first fault though but it'll be a start i guess, good luck

Sorry to hijack

Do you need VCDS to adjust the height or can you do it without?

Sounds like the level sensor has been refitted too far out of position after the subframe was refitted.

The sensor wast removed from the subframe. And the arm is back on the same spot on the track control arm.

Well if the connections are good, then maybe the sensor has been damaged?

Was the sensor put back on the right way around? A garage fitted mine the wrong side of the control arm causing an error on the dash.

Reviving this old thread in case someone else has an issue with the 01539 code, I made a little video of the procedure with VCDS:
