Rs4 hesitation around 2-3000 rpm part throttle openings

Post by mk2zetec » Sat Sep 19, 2015 7:57 am

Good morning
I'm hoping someone can help me
I have a 2014 RS4 that has a hesitation on part throttle openings at around 2-3000rpm.mits bloody irritating.
Wider throttle openings are fine - it pulls cleanly. But on a part throttle in a higher gear it's a few seconds of stuttering...

It's been in the dealers this week as I had a sport differential failure warning. It's also had an annoying fault that it drops into sports mode on its own - that's usually followed by a more serious misfire/hesitation

I had the Audi assist people out when the diff warning came on and the car had an error log of communication error?

Audi's view on the hesitation - it's a characteristic Of the engine. I think that's boll**ks - unless it's a mapped in problem to reduce with noise or emissions at a point where it measured by some ridiculous European Union directive. In all fairness to the dealer they have taken off the inlet manifold to check for problems but nothing obvious.

Anyone else had this?
Is it a characteristic of the engine?

Cheers
Rob

It isn't the beginning of a brake or clutch switch fail is it? When the brakes are applied the RS4 automatically decreases the revs. If the switch (£40 fitted) starts to fail as mine did it will intermittently start to decrease revs as you accelerate in the higher gears, usually around 2000 revs.

Might be nothing to do with this but sounds a little familiar. Started every now and again on mine and was bloody annoying and then alarming.

Good luck!

Yep, mine does it, and so did another one that Audi lent me. So, annoying as it is I'd say its a characteristic, probably to do with emissions as you say.

Has anyone ever got any resolution to the hesitation issue or is it a "characteristic" of the engine?

I have just got a 2014 RS4 and it does the exact same thing so I'm keen to understand whether there's an issue or if it's something I just have to put up with.

A characteristic of the engine ???
Bollocks should be silky smooth from start to finish IMO
At the price of those cars I'd want it sorted !!
Good luck with the dealer :beerchug:
