Worthwhile Options Or Useless Gimmicks

Post by anth8910 » Mon Oct 12, 2015 6:46 pm

Hi All,
Trying to finalise my C7 spec and want owners opinions on the following options (worth it or waste of money):
Assistance package
Heads up display
Speed limit display
Parking System Advanced (vs standard parking pack)
Advanced key with boot opening

Any advice welcome!

Hi.

Chances are you are going to every different possible combination! For me I only went with the Parking system:

Assistance --> I just look at the road and pay attention
HUD --> Just a gimmick for me
Speed limit --> reading on various forums it seems that this doesn't work reliably enough to be useful
Parking Advanced --> I park in all sorts of places, so having the cameras all over is useful. Can't say I've ever tried the self park
Advanced Key -->I had this on a hire car and it drove me nuts. Not needing to know where the keys were to unlock or start just left me wondering where the keys were all the time. Maybe have got over that, but I like to have a button to press
8L S3 with stage 2 (gone)
B7 A4 DTM (gone)
B7 RS4 (Miltek Res Valved, 100 cell cats, Ceramics, Carbon cleaned) gone
C7 RS6 Panther, carbon pack,

Defo advance key with hands free boot opening. It's really handy when youre loaded with your missus shopping.

I never had the parking advanced but wish I had. As others have said in other posts you get the birds eye view which could save your wheels in tight spaces.

I had the new Q7 on test last week and it had HUD and I thought it was a waste of time and distraction so wouldn't bother with that.

I can't comment on the other 2 items as never experienced them.

I have a pre FL :jump_clap: and had a blank cheque from the missus when I was spec’ing but thought long and hard about what I might actually use.

I find Side assist good although I manage ok when I drive other cars. Lane assist has only be on once and NEVER again, ACCgenerally makes for a relaxed drive but can intrude on the odd occasion, the brake assist (or whatever it is called) beep has sounded a couple of times so again useful although I obviously had the situation covered! :bigblink:

Heads up display fit looks bad in the dash imo otherwise I'd have spec’d it- sometimes while holding on for my life it would be good to know my speed without taking my eyes off the road.

Speed Limit Display- I though it was gimmicky but wish I had chosen it- can be retrofitted for ~£150- I intend to do this - to preserve my license- I;ve been holding out for a purely VCDS hack for it but looks like this is not that easy

I have top view and would not be without it- helped in a few tight multi-story car parks particularly for the alloys

Maybe 2 occasions where I'd have welcomed foot boot opening, but I had reservations about keyless entry security

I guess you never know how good any option is until you actually live with it for a while- by then it is usually too late to change your mind!

Assistance pack - used ACC on several JLR products...if it was free I'd have had it otherwise..meh..
HUD - a friends RS6 has it and he loves it...gimmick for me
Speed Limit - is the Audi one a combination of map and front camera? Useful on my other car, so small price for a 'helping' gimmick
Parking Advance - got this one, liked the idea, like the front and rear camera views, birds eye ok but not clear enough for those need to get close to kerb moments...or maybe my eyesight is poor.
Advanced key - any car I've used or borrowed with keyless entry-exit I always have to lock with the button...like the idea of wavy foot boot opener, but on the key suffices.

So save money on the gimmicks and get the Carbon pack......mmmmm....carbon :)

I'm currently heading towards buying a new car, exact model (and TBH brand) not yet decided.
But, of the few must-haves, ACC is top of the list.
Some sort of alloy-saving parking system is probably warranted.
Keyless entry I see as a waste of time and extra security risk.
All the lane assist and other similar driver aids I also see no use for.

Outside of the items mentioned above we want electric seats with key-linked memory on the drivers side, which rules out a hell of a lot of choices.
Heated windscreen is also desirable. Very limited choice there - basically Ford, Jaguar or BIG Audis.

Assistance package- don't know what this is
Heads up display - I miss it when driving cars without it now
Speed limit display- useful when driving roads I don't know, particularly when abroad
Parking System Advanced (vs standard parking pack) - I like it, I don't need it but I like it
Advanced key with boot opening- I have it on my A8 and can't open the boot with my foot but keyless entry and locking once used to it is excellent.

Any advice welcome!
SQ7 - on order
Bentley GTC V8S
Black Macan Diesel on BBS
S art ForTwo
White BMW GSA

Point worth noting on the HUD ; If your daily sunglasses are polaroid, you won't see the HUD
Worth having at night though

-Top view cameras are brilliant, must have.

-The key with boot opening has been useful.

-Assistance package is the pre-sense stuff I think, I view it like an airbag

-I skipped the HUD

One thing I didn't think of adding was power doors, small cost but so happy I added it. No more ops walk back, open and re-close door moments. Been helpful when the little one is asleep in the back and we arrive home, I just get out gently close the door and it fully self closes quietly
