Why is everyone selling there cars?
Why is everyone selling there cars?
Is business bad ?
Is business great and moving on?
Is the draw of a porsche to much for everyone? (no good to me as can't fit the drums and family in!)
Is it the 5 year itch?
As i write this there are 4 RS4's for sale in the first 4 lines of the classifieds, including some real beauties in Ben's and Ken's.
Someone please explain

Good question. Agree there seem to be a few nice ones about at the moment.
To give an alternative view I'm not selling. Business is great, but what else would I buy?
M3 CSL (you know who you are, CSL fanciers...) is lovely but not enough space for babies and their gear.
Likewise 996.
RS6 has an auto box.
New RS4 looks interesting but on paper not much of an advance on mine for the extra 30-odd K GBP. But might be very different on the road of course.
Cheers, Richard.

CSL is one of my main reasons
We now have 2 cars so the RS doesn't have to "do all". But the CSL is not exactly practical for the kiddy seats, but does at least have rear seats unlike the GT3 which would be sat outside if the wife wasn't expecting
I can't see how the imminent arrival of the new RS4 will be hitting values quite yet, no ones driven on and isn't likely to until Sept/Oct. One dealer told me that this is ambitious and the saloon is now delayed until Nov/Dec.
I personally have never owned a car for more than 18 months and do tend to get an itch to try something else. I have decided that if necessary I can always buy another RS4 if I make the wrong decision, fair enough it will have to be a different spec, but in essense it will be the same car spiritually.
My itch has been exagerated as I only drive the RS once or twice every two weeks so I forget what a nice place it is to be
All the best,
Ben

I don't know...but I looked at Autotrader website the other day, and I've never seen so many RS4's up for sale...
Maybe people are getting scared with the new RS4 coming along...although I think the residuals are going to hurt people hard on the new ones.

Imminent arrival of the B7 RS4....nah
On this forum, as any other enthusiast forum we may have a snapshot that might not be representative of the general market, even though there does seem to be more RS4's available at the mo......having moved from an M3 (), it was simple, there is nothing else that hits the mark in this sector of the market, for all the reasons and more mentioned above. God help me when I want to change and look for another manual box....eek!

Well, I’ve been searching for one for a while, and I’m just about to secure one! I’ve heard speaking to traders they are still keen to buy these cars, although they are asking silly money for them (one guy sold his back to a trader after a years ownership for only 22k!!!!), then its up for 27k!!. I personally don’t care to much about what happens to the residual values of the B5 RS4, as I tend to keep her for quiet a while, but I cant see the new RS4 hurting them to much, the B5 version is very unique remember the engine on the B5 has had Cosworth Technology work done on it, and there are limited numbers of this car in the UK. I think she'll be sort after for some time to come.
I tend to agree, and I think it's interesting to look at the RS2 residuals. A good 1993 RS2 looks like it can still fetch 13K GBP. So in eight years time my very well looked-after 2001 RS4, currently worth say 27K GBP, fetches 13K? Doesn't sound too bad to me on the depreciation front.tombs wrote:I personally don’t care to much about what happens to the residual values of the B5 RS4, as I tend to keep her for quiet a while,

Of course the problem is that I'll get itchy buying fingers long before that, but you know what I mean.
Cheers, Richard.
Yeah I know, it was in goodwood green and the milage was quiet high (in the 70k region) but still a very tidy car and although I'm not a real fan of that particular colour it seemed like a great cheapish way of owning such a great car. In fact its now up for 25k! I dont think you can go wrong, if you want to get on the RS4 ladder.

I think the comparison with the RS2 is very valid. From memory about 193 RHD sold in UK wheras the RS6 is ??? but lots more.
I suspect that the price for the RS2 is probably at its lowest ?? Looked after cars will become sought after and the 'cost' in depreciation will become what you spend on them, to maintain in the correct way. Only dodgy bit appears to be brakes, I'd keep the stock ( for originality - in the garage )and swap over to 993/996/monblocks or w.h.y.
Have you seen some of the prices for RS6s? Couple in Trader recently in the upper £30ks ( 37 &39 I think).
Ben you can't afford aGT3 - do you know how much children really cost
