RE: Wheels

I think I generally like the B6 avus wheels better than the B5 avus, except for the centre-cap because the decal seems too small.
However I prefer my RS4 reps simply because they are easier to clean. The indentations in the avus spokes are a bugger for cleaning, although those on the B6 wheels seem a bit better.

I was torn with RS4 reps and S8 wheels. In the end though, I feel that the RS4 wheel design has been "watered" down by Audi fitting it to (seemingly) every second car they make these days ;) Around here lots of A3/TT and even Golfs run with RS4 look wheels, and to add further incentive there's a guy with an A2 a few houses along with me who has RS4 style wheels too!

I think overall I'd have preferred to get S8 wheels, but the cost was much higher (VAGParts were had a set for £151 a rim). I like the B6 look, it's unusual enough that I don't see too many (besides on actual B6 S4s that is!) around, and it's subtle enough that most people wouldn't give them a 2nd glance (I like the sleeper aspect of the S4).

Finally as for the lowering, when I'm in the car it automatically lowers itself.. It's a complicated adjustable suspension system supplied by Fray Bentos, I've got the "Fat Bastard Mk3" model ;)

Fantastic.

Last time I was in Glasgow the woman in the chippy said they don't sell battered mars bars. Can that be true ?

They're not sold everywhere but you can definitely get them. I was more surprised to discover (I'm from NZ originally) the local delicacy that is the deep fried pizza slice...

I do like the idea of getting it lowered, but I think I'll wait and go for coil overs :)

Besides, the gap isn't that large!

Oh yeah, about the centre cap, it's exactly the same as the B5 one, it just looks a little lost in the larger wheel!

Hi guys,
I just fitted the B6 wheels on my S4. They look great and after a short spin the ride feels a little firmer.
Questions for Gav/ajsl : I managed to get some 3mm spacers which Gav suggested would be the ideal, but these are no hubcentric - what difference does this make (apart from making them easier to fit)? I used the existing bolts which appear to secure the wheels and spacers fine - would you recommend longer ones? (just to be sure)
Finally, as regards lowering the suspension, I cant imagine how this could be possible - there is barely a few mm between the base of the suspension arms and the tyre - has anyone done this with these wheels on?

Clive,

I keep saying this but I plan to dump the non-hubcentric spacers I have and get some proper ones. Its just getting round to doing it!

When I fitted mine the spacers were fiddly and I had to make sure they looked centred otherwise it could put the wheel of balance, also it had so many holes in it cos there made to fit every configuration. Plus I think the hubcentric ones will provide easier if the car is worked on by a garage. I have the same studs on but the smallest hubcentric spacers that can be bought are 5mm ones and thats when longer studs are a must.....

Regarding lowering the car, I presume you are talking about that rear suspension arm at the top of the wheel. The whole thing moves with the suspension so if it lowered it will remain in the same place. So all should be hunky dory.

I have a photoshoped picture of my car lowered will post it..... looks much better.....

Hi Gav,
That was exactly my experience - really fiddly and difficult to line up, but the existing studs do seem to secure everything properly.
I would feel a lot happier with the hubcentric spacers and longer bolts - if you have a source for these, please PM me.
Thanks for the explanation about the suspension; I look forward to seeing your pics.
What is the clearance on yours?
Cheers,
Clive

Clive,

Glad to hear it went ok :) Did the standard wheels come off ok?

I got my 5mm hub centric spacers and longer bolts, from philipwalker (http://www.rs246.com/index.php?name=PNp ... file&u=920) here on the forums, I'd reccommend him with no reservations too.

How about some pictures of the new beast!

Yes, wheels came off fine thanks, but thats because they havent been on that long since they were refurbished.
They were a bugger to get off first time around!

So my B5 wheels (and tyres) are now for sale.
In excellent condition (not kerked or scuffed), plenty of tread on tyres.
If anyone interested, please PM me.
