as a slightly related question, do you not have to drop the exhaust to get at the gearbox pan? its the same box as the S6 (6hp26a) which in the S6 means you have to take off a chunk of the exhaust to change out the gearbox oil filter.

I rang Audi Northampton yesterday and asked them to quote for a gearbox oil and filter change. They said it was sealed for life and did not need doing.
It seems like Audi want nothing to do with older auto box's just in case they start playing up after the work is done.
I have also heard that the box's are at the top of the power they can handle and ZF would not warranty them for Audi, hence the sealed for life stance. Not really sure how much of this is true but it sounds like it might be.
How likely is it that I will get problems if I get the oil and filter change done on the box?
It runs ok at the moment apart from the occasional heavy pickup and shock through the car when it takes up drive, almost feels like its low on fluid but runs perfectly 99.9% of the time.

Q7 V12 TDI had the six speed ZF IIRC, think that was 1,000nm from factory. I've read up on it, believe it was modified but can't remember fully.

I laughed like a loon when I saw MRC's mapping results for the V12 TDI Q7 - 600hp and 1300nm+, utterly ridiculous :D
