Rev Limiter in manual

Post by S4WON » Fri Sep 04, 2015 7:47 pm

Hey gents

Just picked up my '14 Rs :)

Will post proper pics over the weekend, quick question though, should it auto matically change gears at rev limiter in manual (stick left) mode or should it bounce?

My s4 ('11) definitely changes up in manual mode, should the RS do the same?

3 hour drive home and loving it!

Ok cool, thanks.

So i guess id im too lazy to change, ill keep it in S mode and use the flappy paddles when i need a little more control..

Btw, for drive select ive gone for

Engine/box - dyna
Exhaust - dyna
Steering - comfort
Suspens - auto

Err, any thoughts on that? Anyone found any magic set ups?

On full manual ? Pretty sure it didn't and was at least 3/4 hits, was expecting it too..

Ill play with it some. I drive my S4 in full manual and definitely does an insta redline shift, I much prefer that tbh, but can also see why some may wish to make sure it doesnt shift so can adjust

Rev Limiter in manual

It bounces off the limiter, I had an S-tronic S4 and it didn't as it changed up as you describe......one of the many reasons I got rid of it.

Start at 4:55 and you'll get the picture - http://youtu.be/w0zG-wAcsQ4

I can't see any reason why anyone would want it to sit bouncing off the limiter in gear, without shifting up ?

Some sort of hold max revs full chat in a corner without it destabilising the car? Or something....

The car literally bounces off the limiter though, so driving on the limit gives a kangaroo effect :)

Aye, immediate power cut, in low gears its whiplash inducing. Even better in the RS6.....

You won't/can't reach max grip in a corner at the top of the Rev range. That's what right foot throttle control is for.

Rev Limiter in manual

Post by S4WON » Sat Sep 05, 2015 5:29 pm

Ok. So extensive testing :)

In individual mode, all dynamic bar comfort steering and auto chassis. If you keep the gear knob in D and just use the flappy paddles it will change up at redline. (As long as M is shown on the dash).

If you push left and go "full manual" it bounces

There you have it, my pref is lazy mode with paddles and auto change ups.
