Roof Box dilemma

Post by lala » Fri Aug 21, 2015 11:20 pm

Well Im going to give Spain a try again, the last trip wasn't quite the success I'd hoped for!!
So I'm thinking of trying to remove some weight from the rear of the car and moving it forward to help with more even weight distribution. I'm considering a Thule roof box and the aero wing things but wondered if anyone has any suggestions on particular makes and models? I had a search but although there was quite a long thread on this subject, it isn't particularly current.
My main concerns are noise from the box/bars and the effect on performance/economy, though the economy isn't so important but would be nice to keep the fuel bill under 4 figures :)

I've just done this.
Thule 9582 for the roof bars.
And I chose a Thule motion 600 box (narrower), although a Thule dynamic M is probably also a good choice.

Ive been looking at exactly the same combo!! Have you fitted yours yet and if so, have you noticed much noise or different driving dynamics? I see you have a black RS, so assume you went for the black box? I have a Daytona RS and will probably go for the silver but think it looks a bit nasty.

I'm afraid I've not yet done a trip with it at warp speed - only <60mph, but generally all seems good.
I went with the Motion 600 as it's narrrower - also wanted to be able to put a bike rack along side it for the forthcoming france trip we're doing.
Yup, I went with black box and silver rails which matches the car well.

In have the Thule 600 motion and wing bars- done a few trips and don't notice much noise at all. I had 2kids and music on but no whistling as I have had with some. There was a section of private road where i sat at 80-90 so it was at decent pace.

I hate whistling kids, too.

Aaaarrrrrrggggghhhh sometimes I just hate how much choice we have nowadays !!! My head says go with the Thule Motion 600, my heart says go with the Thule Touring Sport 600 and my bad side says stuff the budget and go with the Thule Dynamic 800. What do I do, what do I buy, is the Oyster Bay clouding my judgement?
I know that you've said good things about the Motion but aesthetically the Touring Sport is more to my liking and budget friendly too, what influenced your decisions on the Motion?
Thanks

Motion 600 = Narrower for the same volume, without being too stubby or tall either . So I can fit a bike rack or something else (just) alongside it.
If I'd not gone with that one, the dynamic was my 2nd choice.

Just ordered the 9582 bars and the Motion 600....in black. Did a bit of googling and it doesn't look at all bad with Daytona, certainly less garish than silver.
Thanks for all your help gents.
