Just got this....

Post by CRSRS » Tue Aug 18, 2015 3:26 pm

Picked this up two weeks ago, 500 miles in and loving it. Big change from the B7 which I had for 5 years and was very sad to see go.

You say, "big change"? How so? Pros cons against B8?

Im an existing B8 S4 owner waiting for the right C7 to come up used and im getting fed up of waiting and seriously considering going for the 4 instead but have been put off by the naysayers..

Any insight appreciated

Surely you'd rather have a C7?.....as good as the B8 may be it just hasn't got the torque for me.

Each to their own of course....I just think Audi should have ditched this engine with the B7...apart form DSG they haven't moved game on enough for me to consider a B8.

The B7 is an epic drivers car and there is few who would argue otherwise. The engine and handling combined with the lovely curves was a great combination. Every day I owned mine I smiled when I got in and always looked back to admire when I walked away. On twisty roads in the highlands of Scotland it was accomplished and allowed you to really push on quickly. As car's go there is very little to complain about.
I had been looking at the B8 for a while, read the reviews, about the steering, lack of feel, handling, suspension etc etc. Yet there is no doubt the B8 is what the B7, was to the B5, it is different and a change. Some people instantly like it, others like myself need time in the car to truly appreciate it. The reality is the tech has moved on and its more ''modern'' but I would expect that after 7 years. It takes some time to set it as you like it to drive and find the right combination for you.
I still love the engine, the S-Tronic gearbox although not manual is quick and is good fun in manual. Yes, you can be lazy and drive it in auto in the same way as you can change gear at 3000rpm if you wanted in the B7. I drive the B8 in manual and enjoy the acceleration and the sound just like the B7. At the end of the day its different, takes time to learn how to drive it as you like and still looks and sounds ace! Would I go back, no I would not. Would I still like to have my B7, yes but only to have both and enjoy best of both worlds.
My advice, if your thinking about it, go drive one and make up your own mind, dont take too much notice of the naysayers.
One thing is for sure it is not a C7. Saw Misano one in Ayr Audi and it looked stunning especially at 90K! My B8 was 40k and worth every penny.

If they were the same price yes. But the thing is im looking to move my S4 within the next year for sure and dont really want to go past 60k.

The way prices are firming on the C7 im not sure id get what i want for that money (pana, hud, exhaust) so i thinking of getting a spot on B8 RS instead.

Well, its a nice problem to have I guess :)
