Sensitivity of Keyfob

Post by GaryC » Fri May 06, 2005 12:37 pm

The remote keyfobs for my RS6 are ridiculously over-sensitive. The slightest touch seems to activate the remote central locking. I can't even put them in my pocket until I'm well away from the car, because of the risk they touch my mobile phone or a house key and unlock the car. Last week my wife managed to lock the keys and our 2 kids inside the car - just by dropping them on the driver's seat activated the remote locking, and had to get 2 friends to help her out - one to watch over the car, the other to ferry her home to get the spare key. I've also had an incident not long after buying the car where the remote window opening activated in my pocket and left the car unlocked and all windows down in the rain, but fortunately a neighbour alerted me before any damage was done.

Is there any way the keyfobs can be reprogrammed to decrease the sensitivity of the buttons? Even disabling the remote central locking completely would be preferable to the current state which is frankly a complete PITA.

Thanks,

Gary.

I dont think so, though my keys are not that sensitive, you may have a dodgy key.

You could always use the 'service' (i think thats whay it is called) key, as it does not have remote function. A bit of a pain though, also it may not have all of the functions built in.

I'd get it replaced at the dealers....not heard of a sensitivity adjustment or heard of any similar problems before to be honest...

Should be free of charge I'd imagine...or at least kick up enough fuss until it is ;-)

The remote window opening 'comfort setting' can be deactivated via the vagcom at your dealer. I don't know if the remote lock / unlock can be deactivated but the remote on the boot lock can be.

Why they use radio and not infra red (which is very line of sight) I cannot imagine. It is very easy to block any car remote with a simple transmitter and watch folks struggle to get in their cars! Not that I would do that of course!

Hope you sort it.

Cheers, MartynC

Gary, I've had similar problems myself - see link to post below. I daren't put the keys in a trouser pocket anymore. Am going to see what can be coded out next time I visit the dealer
Would be interested to know how you get on.
