This time though.... I want a decent lap in the morning with no traffic. Apart from the gt3rs's that will I'm sure move me over...

Real men wait to be first out when it's snowing...
good work Ross - my first lap ever was in drizzle and light mist at 8am, i watched the go pro footage last night and it was pretty slow but i was still overtaking things - left my 2 mates for dust :)
I have an 08:30 time in my old RS4 - but my "best" (and most challenging) lap by a country mile is the 09:56 I did in the wet (again, thanks to the B7 RS4). That car was a bloody weapon on the 'ring. The B8 has awful big shoes to fill.

I wrote a Daytona 675 off in 2008 in the wet, I was going so well until the end!

Took the 996 out in the rain, first time I've been out in the rain since. Couldn't believe how long the braking distances were! So slippery into some of the corners! thought I was going into the gravel at one point :)

Bigger balls than me taking a Porsche out in the wet lol.

Aye it's scary how focusing the weekend makes that circuit. And it's always quiet so plenty of opportunity to learn more.

Do either of you have videos? I'd be keen to watch them, might learn something :)

I'm hoping for a sub 9 minute lap this time, 8:30 would be nice but I'm not sure if I've got the minerals for that!

Just pm'd you mate :) I'd love an 8:45 in the Porsche. The rs6 would just scare me too much to push harder than a 9 minute or so lap, might be the rubbish tyres, but it was sliding on every corner and not in a consistent way. I think the electronics didn't help either and again my balls aren't big enough to take them off a 2 tonne monster!

I couldn't get faster than about 09:20 in the RS6 - despite being on PSS's I didn't have the brakes for it (it was before my skim and race pad upgrade). Just had very little confidence.

I'm not looking forward to the RS4 on the standard tyres...!

I had to change my braking a lot to get to the 09:00 mark. I was destroying them before the 5k marker! I also found that 149mph over "that bump" is bloody terrifying in an rs6! And about 15mph faster than I've even been over it before....

I'm glad I upgraded my brakes before I went, I didn't get any fade at all, even after 3 laps back to back. The discs weren't cheap, but for the type of driving we do its nice not worrying about if you can stop or not!

I chickened out and braked before that bump last time, I'll have to remember to be wary of it!

I'd recommend it! I was chasing an m3 csl and 997 gt3rs. I was gaining on them too! But they both took off, landed straightened off and backed off for the bumps on the left hand dog leg. I went into those bumps like a man possessed! They must have been looking in their mirrors thinking oh dear!

I'm heading out Monday for 2 days of track time on a DN event. Full VLN and Norchliefe layout I believe, which I've not done before.
I've managed an 8.34 in my 205 and consistently low 8.40's. When you get to mid 8's in a car, regardless of how much power is under your foot, I think its mainly down to how big your gonad's are (or how talented you are) to whether you'll get any faster times in. I'm not talented and I haven't got big gonad's but I have some great sport with similar powered cars and more powerful ones too.
I'm always out first thing in the morning on TF and can generally manage to get atleast 4 clearish laps in before it gets busy and then back out again last thing in the evening as its quietening down.
Sprint Blue Rs4 (B7) is now my weekend toy :-)
Tweeked 16v 205gti is my DRT(dedicated Ring Toy) and always will be ! Awesome track toy.

8:34 in a 205! You're a bloody legend! What's been done to the 205?

I need to get faster... :-)

At the time of that fastest lap it was an 8v 1.9 with a 1.6 box, high comp pistons, cams blar blar weber 45's.Probably running around 160 horses. But where its at is the suspension.... Modified Bilstein Grp A coilovers with 450lb springs, top mounts, rose jointed wishbones, modified rear beam to sit it higher into the boot floor by approx. 40mm, cambered, big torsion bars and even bigger anti roll bar. triple 8's or Dunlop dz03's.
Now its running a dry sumped 16v high comp engine on management.......but I haven't found the balls to pull another low 8.30 yet.
I was really on the limit to be fair as you can imagine and I wasn't pulling much more than mid 120mph or at best 130mph on the straights so all the time gained was through the bends :biggrin2: which is awesome when it all comes together.

Legend I doubt.... Stupid more likely especially when it was on TF.

Ha ha I'll stick to legend! I remember a 1l corsa, race prep'd doing some serious cornering! I couldn't stay with him in the corners but had to work hard on the straights to make it back up!!! :)
