Remap warranty - a possible solution...

Post by Millwallmart » Sun Jun 21, 2015 10:42 am

So there's a very long thread active atm with the main theme being warranty on tuned cars.

Personally, I always want more power but am of course always concerned about leaving myself in no-mans land without a warranty.

The solution I've had over the last ten years or so is that I use DMS of Southampton. They offer a service that whenever my cars need to visit a main dealer, DMS come to me and put the standard map file back into my car. Once I have collected my car, they return to me and replace my tuned map- job done!

Fortunately, I've never had a tuning related problem on any of my cars but it's very reassuring knowing that if I did, they're only a phonecall away?.

Im aware that some tuners can patch the map but if the MD decided to monitor the car on a road test (or just push the loud pedal!) it would very quickly become clear that it's tuned thus possible invalidating warranty if the technician is a jobs worth or just looking for an out.

I've used DMS many times and, whilst possibly not the cheapest, the products and aftercare I've received is second to none.

Once I'm over the initial financial blow of buying the motor I'll be headed to Southampton- this time for a map and akrapovic!

Won't work, there's a certain parameter in the car ecu than can be checked to see if it's ever been mapped. Can't be reversed once it's done.

Remap = no manufacturers warranty on engine or directly related parts.

/end remap warranty threads.

It's just that simple. Alter the ecu map in any way and it is possible to tell. Regardless of what bs tuners may spout about returning it to standard.

Walk into Audi and ask for a new engine after having it remapped and "returned to standard" and I'd probably bet my house you won't get Audi providing that new engine.

What's more, it speaks a lot of somebody's morals if they are prepared to try and get Audi to cough up for new engine parts after they have had a car remapped.

If somebody has the balls to remap a brand new car, then have the balls to accept the financial consequences if it goes wrong.

Hang on, I always have ,and always will, use fforums to share my experiences, (both good and bad) and hopefully learn from other people's mistakes &/or good fortunes. This has served me pretty well over the years.

Im f*ck all to do with DMS so if that's directed at me you can take your <beep> And shove it up ya <beep>

Has anyone had a tune from a place that claims to be able to revert the car to standard?

Have they ever had the car returned to standard prior to service or better yet engine warranty claims?

Has the car earned a TD1 or did it escape and get the warranty work done?

Until these questions are answered then it's all conjecture and hypothetical.

Though if anyone has had a tune and then claimed on Audi warranty for engine work, they are highly unlikely to want to post about it here. Which is an answer in itself IMHO.

There are always a lot of rumours about what tuners can/can't do. With the modern esc they can work out what you had for tea last night lol!

Speaking to Doug the c7 is proving quite tough at the stage 2 sort of tune (700ps+ and 850+nm). However, you just never know. When I get my c7 I will not be mapping it for a good while-just a nice exhaust for now. I also will not go hunting for superbikes anymore like I do with the 6!

I'll be tuning within the month and if things did end up going pear shaped then, of course, the buck will stop with me.

If the opportunity arose to get things covered under warranty by not mentioning things or even giving someone a drink to help me out I would do so without so much a twinge of guilt- the only emotion would be relief, judge as you will.

Fast cars, fast women and slow horses are all expensive hobbies but I love em all and work my socks off for the privilege of indulgence!

The tuner (of which I will no longer mention) sent me a pic of a a recorded 2.8 sec to 60- which in an rs6 just plain gives me a hard on!- I can't wait! :))
