Right spent the whole of today, fitting a start button where the lighter used to be on the RS4.
Bought from eBay link here...

ANyway took ages to make the button fit the whole lots of carefull snading - still not 100% happy , but will have another go later in the week.
Anyway wired up the kit and the bugger did not work.
Wiring is as follows.
From the button you have three wires.
1 is earth,
1 is ignition on (for the light)
1 is 12v switched to the relay
The relay is 4 prong.
Connections are numbered
Pin 30 is 12v constant from car loom ( I took a permanent live from one of the big red cables going to the ignition)
Pin 86 is ground ( I grounded this with the earth from the switch to the ground by the relay board on the car)
Pin 87 is to the starter motor ( this was conected to the red and black cable after my connex system)
Pin 85, this is the yellow from the button.
Wired it up and nothing - BUGGER BOLLOX.
Looks quite good though, very much like the new RS4...
ANY IDEAS ANYONE - surely the audi key has nothing to do with it as it is in the slot all I am doing is the last movement using a button instead?
Am I missing something
BTW there were two big red cables that had permanent 12v did I pick the wrong one ?
ANy ideas anyone.
Wastes of a day and very close to giving up.
HELP and ideas please
RE: HELP and ideas please
Mate,
Long time no speak, hope you are doing ok.
I was planning on coming to the meet this month, perhaps we could take a look at it then, I'm sure I could sort it pretty quickly, I did do quite a bit of reading around the ignition switch on the A4 models a while back as I was looking to fit a turbo timer to my S4, the switch is devilishly complex, I think it actually contains 5 switches and they aren't all commoned.
How does that sound

Dan, How's he going to get the car to the meet if it won't start
Tomson, does the cigarette lighter still swivel?
Nige.

Nige! I assume you are joking
I think the car still starts, just not on the button.
In any case, Tom's a big lad, I'm sure he could push it to Windsor from Gloucester!

RE: HELP and ideas please
Tom, what's your connex system ??
Possibly a stupid question, but need to know.
Firstly the key has a chip in it and I think the voltage is only applied to the pickup for this when the key is switched to ign on. Assuming you have the key in the ignition and switched on it shouldn't matter.
secondly, I think you've wired it incorrectly.
I think that pin 86 should be connected to live with pin 30.
This is because your switch connected to pin 85 is grounding the relay.
One thing - I trust you have put a fuse in line with the positive supply, right ??
Safety first mate, you don't want it going up in smoke, eh.
Give it a go and let us know how you get on.
