B8 rs4 vs c6 rs6 vs m3

So having read a few people's comments about going from the b7 to the c6 and thinking about going to b8. It trigger the thoughts I've had on the c6 since buying here.

So things I really like about the c6.

Speed - 189 on the autobahn in an estate!
Power - when spinning up it gets to high speeds seriously quickly.
Space - can fully load this car up! Four up to the airport is easy including snowboards!
Practicality - cruising down the motorway is effortless.
Interior - loads of room, least clostraphobic car I've ever been in! Good entertainment system.

Things I dislike.
Nurburgring - it's quick still but it's not great trying to control under steer in every corner and it feeling vague. It's just not as much fun!
Steering - in general it steers well, but it's not quick to change direction or alter you line quickly, it requires grace and patience.
Throttle control - I want to be able to flick the car quick while feathering the throttle. This cars doesn't let you do that as the accelerator isn't linear enough.

So my natural thought is to get a 4 door m3! But... The b8 might be another option!

So what do people think with a b8? Also anyone got a back to back with the new m3?

An M5 might be closer to where you'd want to be.
Shame they no longer do an M5 touring, do they? It'd be all the things you like about the C6 with more involvement and mid-corner adjustability. Well over 600HP with a mere remap too.

I've got a close friend with an M3 (late 2014) and we've driven back to back to places plenty of times for good comparison (I also had a demo one for the day to try - although it was an M4, so the 3dr version))
They're very different animals to be honest.
To get the main point over, an M3/4 will take an RS4 in a straight line, and even off the line, there's not as much in it as 4wd vs 2dw would suggest as the BMW produces some pretty impressive traction in the dry
However, as soon as you get near a corner or the road gets even slightly damp, the RS4 will leave it standing.
We've raced (in a legal manner of course) a load of times over normal A/B roads and also with him driving my car and me in his, and it's generally the RS that comes on top unless there's no braking or corners involved
The New M3/4 isn't as engaging as the old ones either

I've not had massive experience of driving a C6 Rs6, but when i did have a go, it felt very fast but very disconnected
The C7 Rs6 is massive step on and best of both worlds in my opinion

The M4 is super quick. Easily keep up with an R8 V10 to 120/130mph

i drove the B8 RS4 when i test drove it and it didn't impress me with its power, you really got to work it out to get the most out of it and within regular day to day driving isn't quite fun as the traffic doesn't allow that plus being a NA engine you don't have much room for adding power which we all know that moment will come rather sooner than later. What i did like about it was the Sport differential, the gearbox and steering and the general feeling of a light agile car, though steering feels very artificial on its sportier setting.

However, the B8 feels quite outdated on the interior side, i know that the C6 is also an '05 design but to me at least, it doesn't feel so outdated.

Now the new M3 is the one i'd go for, looks stunning, has a great engine, albeit not a V8 but the 6 inline is brilliant and delivers a lot of torque plus a lot of tuning potential, so between the B8 and the M3, i'd go almost blindly for the latter one, it is after all an M3 and they've never really been a disappointment when it comes to sheer driving experience, might not be the most practical one but if you're looking for a more track oriented car i think this is the one to have.

M5 F10 or C7 RS6, both are in the barge league, no matter what you do to them they'll always be the super fast luxury boats made for high speed autobahn and not focused on the track use, weight is weight and you can't make up for that, you can disguise it which they do very very well, but at the end of the day if you do a lap in an M3 you'll realize how boaty they are.

They've certainly got the styling of the M3/4 right. Saw one on Saturday in a flat darker Riviera-type blue and it certainly looked the nuts. 2WD vs. 4WD will obviously have its chalk and cheese attributes.

oh yes, the B8 is quite behind when it comes to looks and not only, hopefully the new A4 generation will change the game for the new RS4 because as it is now the only advantage it has over the M3 is the Quattro, and that wouldn't make me choose it over the Beemer.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I don't think Audi is "behind" anyone from a design perspective, I like the fact the RS4 doesn't stand out too much from the std. Nothing BMW have done design-wise has interested me other than the 1M "roller skate". BM's aren't and won't ever be on my agenda although I had a 1 series diesel as a hire car once and that was nice. I like Audi's understated design ethos (albeit the new A3 is a bit boring). I think the UK's autumn/winter climate make's Quattro a must for a "lead right foot' driver, such as myself.....but horses for courses and all that.

I wouldn't expect revolution over evolution for the next A4.

M4 is quick indeed,my mates Ferrari 430 with a few tweaks could significantly pull anything on one,I had a good go in the M4 myself and the punch out of lower speed corners is mega,gaps the Ferrari and deffo a b8 rs4 while there getting up into the power,they will be an absolute weapon when mapped.Gearbox is easily as slick as the b8's,power is in heaps earlier compared to the b8's early asthmatic rpm revrange.2wd isn't to be as worried about either,I got it out of shape at near three figures,the dash lit up like a Crimbo tree at the same time as dialling opposite lock in and before I knew it the electronics had dealt with it.

I actually don't want anything that you don't to work to go quick. The c6 goes quick but it's difficult to enjoy getting there as its so smooth. Where as I think the rs4 would be just as quick but you'd work for it a bit more and so know you're doing it. That should help keep away from the 105mph speed traps! The cornering is the main thing for me. If the rs4 can keep it in the corners then in sold to be honest! I like understated. The Beemer looks awesome but it does scream look at me! (I'd want orange if your going to scream cock, scream it loud I say!). Where as the rs4 is more "really, you can try, I too cool to shout but I'll have you."
