Need a set of New tyres any recommendations?
Re: Need a set of New tyres any recommendations?
Amazing, another tyre thread...
Offical tyre grip ratings, roll resistance and noise ratings have nothing on those "evo tyre of the year" tests that Continental pay for annually...

Re: Need a set of New tyres any recommendations?
Here you go - Goodyears (best tyre for the car IMHO) and in your price range too

Don't seem fancy to me - just black and round - just the way I like them!!

As a mathematician the answer is yes = 1. However AFAIK there is no such thing as Assymetric 1, in which case the answer would be 2.
Confusing isn't it!

Allow me to rephrase; being that the tread pattern looks to be very different when comparing Goodyear Assymetrics and Assymetric 2s, is there much difference in their performance on the 6? There must be someone out there that will have tried both tyres?

Re: Need a set of New tyres any recommendations?
Not had them on the 6, but had them on the s4 and they were brilliant. I've found the GSD3, Assym 1 & 2's to be superb. Had Goodyears on every car I've owned and only once lost control of the car, my 205 doing lift off oversteer on an island that had had an accident on it the day before (car had lost all it's coolant).

Re: Need a set of New tyres any recommendations?
AFAIK the old Assymetic isn't available in 255/35 (and not sure it ever was) - so everyone is running the Assymetric 2 - which is excellent on the beast - good in wet or dry, and reasonable wear rates.

Re: Need a set of New tyres any recommendations?
I hadn't noticed that the old assymetric wasn't available in the original size-that's a good point. I have 275/30s on my car though and replacing the fronts is quickly reaching the top of the list. I originally looked for the PS2s but it looks like they are not available in my size.
Very helpful. Thanks.

Thanks for this. Hit a kerb at speed taking evading action on the way home and now have a rather large egg on the NSF tyreDaveperc wrote:Here you go - Goodyears (best tyre for the car IMHO) and in your price range too

Out of curiosity, what tyres are you running??
no, I have the Pirellis P-Zero on it came with, but doubt very much ill be replacing with the same.
Completely disagree about big brand names as a general rule (and so would some far more knowledgeable and respected people I know).
I refer you back to my original comment about checking the actual compound of the tyre rather than how much your paying towards an expensive marketing campaign. Just because its expensive isn't a gauge of ability.
I was using Toyo when hardly anyone outside of motorsport had heard of them, (and yes they were cheaper AND better than Pirelli), as the brand caught on and became well known they also starting skimping on the compound. Same has happened in the last few years with Kuhmo Ecstas. Not sure what I will go for next, perhaps Goodyear or Avon, which ever has a better compound than my P-Zeros.
Re: Need a set of New tyres any recommendations?
Almost anything is better than the P-Zeros on the RS6.

Shodding the wheels with Japanese school girl panties would give more grip than P-Zero. In fact, I reckon the Zero in P-Zero denotes the grip available.Shoppinit wrote:Almost anything is better than the P-Zeros on the RS6.
