You won't know what you're missing until you get some PS2 on there. You might *think* you've got OK grip now, but get those PS2 on there and you'll wonder why you didn't do it ages ago. Even in the wet, they are impressive.

Have you gone for a metal wing or paper mache?

dont want a soft race tyre, just a good all rounder for the money that will last and grip when i want to give it some.

Going to get LPG conversion too? Why put cheap tyres on a sports car, I just don't get it.

Expensive tyres are not necessarily any better than some cheaper ones (worse in some cases).
Read the compound and traction ratings and compare. Admittedly thanks to the good ol' EU interference it has now become more difficult to find this information since they mandated that it must be replaced with Eco nonsense ratings instead.

Big name tyres are exactly that, youre paying for the brand, the marketing.

You're also paying for the superior R&D and arguably production quality.

Anyhoo, it's a common argument and one that I use myself when it comes to buying things I don't want to spend money on, but frequently I am forced to admit that the big brands just do things much, much better.

When it comes to tyres, I see it this way: You are being prevented from flying into the scenery by 4 patches of rubber about the size of postcards... You want that rubber to be as good as possible. I don't care what tyres cost. Performance first for me. PS2 are consistently coming out as the best for this car, from users.

Exactly the same applies with brake pads, I've had cheap Apec pads early on when I was on a tight budget (do not under any circumstances use these!!), then EBC Yellow stuff that were pretty decent tbh, Girodisc Supersport pads i bought with the bigger discs which were probably equally good but very dusty.. Finally I've just gone with the Ferodo DS2500 pads that everyone raves about and I can totally see why. Yes they're expensive, but they might make the difference between stopping safely and writing off the car and injuring myself/others.

Moral of the story, sometimes when people highly rate something it's because it's genuinely good and not just popular brands.

BTW: Mitchelin Pilot super sport!! I'll freely admit i've only had PS2's before that and no other brands but they are incredibly grippy and surprisingly long lasting tyres.

If you've owned the car for a while then you must know that they cost a lot to run and go like shyte-of-a-metal implement. Why not save up another weeks pocket money and buy good tyres (fancy), not affordable ones???? Just thinking of your safety and actually other road users too.

How about you do up your flies,pull up your trousers and wipe the cum off your computer screen from all the condescending forum preaching you love doing instead of assuming I can't afford Tyres above £150 or afford to run the car? Just because I ask what is good (for the money) in a certain price range doesn't mean I can't afford to run it.

My experience is with Michelin PSS, PS2, Bridgestone Potenza S02......the latter being the best all round tire on the BMW I was running at the time.

I think alot of the tires mentioned in this forum for this particular car have popped up on this article.....

I have some complete cack on the car at the moment, but they were new on the car when I bought it... Federal 595 Evo. But I think a set of Goodyear Eagle's will be going on next summer.

Every car has an ideal tyre, I find. I would never put Bridgestonestombstones on the RS6 but they have been good on other cars, IME.

It's shocking how much the load index makes a difference. I just replaced some PSS 96Y on my M3 with some PSS 93Y. The difference is very surprising. The 96 load index was too high for the car and grip really suffered. Now, even with traction turned off and being lairy pulling out of junctions, it's rare that I lose grip. Before it was guaranteed oversteer.

That's a bit moot on a barge like the RS6 - you're unlikely to find tyres with too high a LI.

RSS - Not unreasonable to ask if other users can recommend a mid price range tyre.
Mine came with new Accelleras ! terrible grip, vibration; replaced with PS2 and 3 years of summer use very happy ( perhaps a bit noisy). Winter use Nokians also very pleased with.
Now all tyres are cheaper whilst oil is low, why take a chance? PS2 or Goodyear Eagles , seem to be the most recommended.

Simon, why did you change the giro disc pads? They worked pretty good when I drove your car. Have you worn then out so soon?

Hey Ric, they were good, even after 3 back to back laps on the ring they didn't fade, but they were very dusty and wore down extremely quickly even before the ring trip. I decided to change them at the same time as having discs skimmed the other week.

I've been running the vReds for the past few years and find them to be there or thereabouts. I do prefer the Goodyear though but at the time I needed to replace them they were out of stock.

It's a case of remembering that tyres are the only thing that keeps you on the road, no matter what toy's your have available. If the tyres can't cope your in trouble.

Anyone had any experience of Avon ZZ5's on a C5 RS6?

I wouldn't even dream of running on Avon's on these cars, never found them to be quality tyre in any way possible. They are OK on lesser performance cars that don't have massive torque or are around the 2 tonne mark.
