Safe amount of boost to run on an S4
I believe piston 6 is the most suceptible to runniing lean, most likely holed a piston. Is the car is at AMD for investigation? Let us know how you get on.

Very unusual problem there. That engine should be happy to take that amount of tuning. Its not exactly highly stressed with those boost levels. Let us know if they find the reason behind it.

Not sure what to do, AMD want me to pay the labour to remove and strip down the engine 18 hours?
Car was remapped 2 weeks before, but only had the car 10 days because when I got the car back it started losing boost with in 10 min's of driving it. so the car went back to AMD , I/C top hose was leaking.

Mmmm, wouldn't be happy with that response. Surely thats why you spend the kinda money AMD charge for their stage 3 upgrade, to get good after service in the event of something going wrong?

That attitude stinks IMHO. They modified the car, they will have checked car healthy beforehand (of course) and after. These engines are not fragile and failure unusual even when tuned.BRETTCOLLINS wrote:Not sure what to do, AMD want me to pay the labour to remove and strip down the engine 18 hours?

If they wish to have a good reputation they should investigate and sort at their cost. If they can prove pre existing fault then it is fair to look to the customer for payment.
I suggest you talk to Ed again or even take it elsewhere for a second opinion

That's an interesting WHP figure. Mine was 280 at the wheels at AmD, but without the Intercoolers, injectors and fuel pump. They must have played safe with the map on your car.
The problem with tuning any car is that you really have no idea of the state that the engine is in when you tune it and therefore it's difficult to give any guarntee on the work.

True if you are getting it remapped in a pub car park but surely if you go to a tuner with a good rep offering high end products it should'nt be too much for you to expect them to be qualified/experienced enough to tell you that your car is or isn't good enough to take the work they propose. With AMD for example they sell their before (check all is okay) and after checks as a plus point for using them for remaps, which should be just the same for bigger work imo.jeffw wrote:The problem with tuning any car is that you really have no idea of the state that the engine is in when you tune it and therefore it's difficult to give any guarntee on the work.

This is the story so far:
In 10 months AMD have had my Audi S4 5 times, total of 84.5 hours labour ( £60 +vat ).
They have Removed and Refitted just about every part on my car as well as fitting lots of new parts. total cost to me is nearly 10k ( parts and labour ).
Both AMD and myself have had problems with this car since 2004, AMD have had the car a total 3 month out of the 10.
But to get the car back all done and setup and 3 weeks after the engine lets go.
Now AMD are want me to pay 18 hours labour to till me what happened to it.
they are saying that they didn't rebuild the engine so it is not down to them.
What do people think?
