Dead RS6

The car was running fine on Saturday, but I came to start it yesterday and it's dead as a do-do. The central locking and interior lights worked fine, but when I turned the key there was nothing other than flickering of the dashboard warning lights and a rapid clicking coming from somewhere. I had a similar thing with my old Evo 6 which turned out to be a defective battery.

Audi Assist to their credit got a technician around to me in under 20 minutes. The battery was registering only 10 volts and the guy reckoned it was most likely to be a defective cell rather than a fault somewhere causing a constant current drain. He jump started the car and it's now in at the dealers. I just hope they can sort it quickly as I've got a few days off work at the moment with our newborn who arrived on Saturday, and it would be nice to have the 'decent' car to drive and not have to rely on my wife's octavia.

Anyone else experienced this sort of battery or electrical problem?

No problems at all. Congrats with the new born! Eh, the Octavia will be very handy for Spills 'Mess', mud and all that baby 'stuff' I use a Galaxy for all that!. Too many baby seats etc damage the Recaros! In 10 years I am sure Audi will have an electric rocket as a replacement and I'll have kids who appreciate a decent motor!

I had an absolutely identical experience. Audi Assist diagnosed a duff battery (car 11 months old!) and the dealer fitted a new one- problem solved.

The dealer kept the car overnight, fully charged the battery, did a current draw test and found it was only drawing a minute amount of current (0.019 amps I think) and said that the battery seemed to be holding its charge. I've had the car back for 4 days now and it's been behaving faultlessly, but then I have been driving it every day.

I guess I'll wait and see what happens the next time it's left standing for a few days, and if it happens again pester the dealer to replace the battery - the audi assist guy was 90% sure that was what the problem was.

Well done with the baby. My first got collected in a diesel Focus estate, but thankfully now appreciates the subtle differences between peformance and normal cars. Love to see his face hearing the roar of a 6+, and also the directness of a 172 Cup which he loves in equal measure. (Little concept of £ yet!).

It's probably worth getting one of those solar cigar socket chargers from Maplin or elsewhere. I use one as I've had similar problems, and they're always at inconvenient times.
