Unwanted gift from the sky

Post by relax max » Sat Apr 18, 2015 8:56 pm

had some nasty bird sh** on the car. Cleaned it up and then took the car for a full wash. To my horror, there are three light stains on the bonnet that are very visible under some light. Tried to rub but not going away. Car is misano red. Does anyone have any advice? Does anyone know any good valet in the london area? Can't stop seeing and thinking about the stains. Really annoying. Thanks very much

I think autoglym do bird poo wipes that neutralise the poo. I've also read somewhere you can clean the local area with white vinegar to neutralise? Sorry don't know anyone in London but I would defo get the wipes for now

I've had this before. It seems to get under the lacquer and won't come off.

Tried a few things but Megs scratch x 2.0 did the job. It's about a tenner from halfrads :beerchug:

Autoglym proved a while back that bird crap doesn't actually etch the lacquer, it's the effect of it drying, usually in hot weather and the lacquer underneath it takes the shape of the crap as it hardens and shrinks. I had a large mark on my bonnet and I machined it off, some come off easier than others though. Autoglym carried out the tests to disprove the claims of the likes of DiamondBrite that they protect paintwork from bird droppings.

If you want a good detailer try
Valet Magic 01344 891891 he's based in camberley. Alternatively SMC detailing 07933 688338 who is mobile will come to you. Both will be able to sort if you don't fancy tackling it yourself. They both know Audis and know how to tackle the tough paint

thnak you all. very much appreciated. Looked up the meguiar stuff and it looks almost miraculous and not too difficult even for me (am not handy at all). will buy it and will try it or else might try SMC. It is sooo annoying and amazing how you cant stop thinking about it and keep zooming on the spots every time i look at the bonnet. thanks a lot. will let you know how i get on

RSphantom, have used the Meguiar scratch x2 and it seems to have worked out a miracle except on one of the stains where I need to try again or perhaps use SMC or valet magic. Misano red is a bit annoying to keep very neat, you do see the hairlines or maybe am being too an** or obsessed. Thanks a million for all your help.

Does anyone have used SMC or valet magic to refurb alloys. To my biggest annoyance have now very slightly scratched one of the alloys. Not a big deal but again one of those things that once you know, you keep looking at!

Glad to see it worked. Sometimes you need to apply it more than once to do the job. I had a scuff mark on a previous car and it took around four to five applications to get rid of it.

I guess you mean swirl marks when referring to hairlines. I'm no expert but purchased a Megs dual action polisher. Using this with Megs ultimate compound really does a good job of getting rid of them and not too scary to use. I was worried about wrecking my paint work but there's loads of vids on Youtube on how to use these machines and now its simple to use. However, if you don't fancy doing it yourself then a good detailer will look after that for you.

In terms of your alloy wheel I guess you have a 21" wheel which will be diamond cut. In reality to fix it properly it's a send away job but I managed to kerb one of mine on a previous RS6. I spoke to my dealer who put me onto the bloke who does their wheel repairs. He repaired it without any need to send away and I couldn't tell the difference. He charged me £50 and I was really happy with the results. Had the car for another 6 six months all through winter and I still couldn't tell where the repair had been done.

I used valet magic to get my original wheels done. IMO they look incredible. Had them done in satin black just to be a bit different.

Very very nice. Rs phantom, will ping you. Yes these 21' are hyper delicate. By the way a bit of a pain for any of you who drive often on the eurotunnel where it is also v easy to scratch. Have been going back and forth and it is a pain and a trip I now worry about
