Hi Sam...
That was just a good clean and a polish up with mequiars ultimate detailer.
Came up pretty good... and remarkably, i didnt manage to chip any of the lacquer while manhandling the calipers! :-)

They look great. It's a satisfying feeling getting all the crud from under the arches and the new discs look sweet. I think your calipers have been refurbished before though, as I don't think those are the OE Stickers. Might explain why they came up so well Compared to most at this age.

Hey C_J....
I used a can of brake cleaner and a rag on the whole caliper, with a brass wire detailing brush on the not so visible areas.
A good wipe over and then polished up using some meguiars ultimate detailer polish/spray.
I have to admit, the condition of the lacquer was excellent so they didnt take much effort.
If they are badly covered in brake deposits, i would recommend some alloy wheel cleaner, the sort with a slight acidic property.
Either auto-glym or meguairs do a good one.

Another advantage was to remove the old disc and then bolt the caliper back on to the carrier. That way its not flopping about on the floor and you can get right round it conveniently without chipping the lacquer.
