R8 V10 driven...is it me but...?

Post by Revolution » Mon Apr 06, 2015 11:40 pm

61 plate V10 R-tronic

Gear change was woeful, I was warned about R-tronic but didn't expect that, steering felt super slow and not much quicker than my RS4 under 100...

Reckon on a fast a road it wouldn't get away from a 4..

28k on clock, 1 owner from new so hardly a duff model.

Genuinely disappointed and starting this thread to get other feedback as fancied one in the future rather than slag of the R8

Anyone else had a similar experience..?

The gearbox is <beep>, but it would walk away from a B8 RS 4!

Agree with that, RS4 aint the fastest thing around, ive been in classba V10 and its fast, was shocked as to how good it was and that was coming out of his RS6.

Hmmmm, my R8 GT steering is super quick and precise and in regards to the R-Tronic, it's not the best BUT if you drive it like a manual then it's fine especially when you're gunning it. Mind you, I have had the TCU tune so it has improved it a lot.
Too much power is barely enough.

Never caned it that hard as my first go in one & at higher speeds it was proper fast...but just expected more - reckon on track it would be a different matter with the width of it and chassis etc...maybe a challenge at spa is needed...

Could've been an under used model with a tight engine but expected more - maybe i need to try a dsg one as expected to be blown away by it but wasnt...!

I've only driven an S-tronic V10 and I was blown away. Getting back in the RS 5 afterwards was the only disappointment on that day. Awesome bit of kit. Unless you drive like a knob you won't completely leave an RS on the road. I had an hours blast against an RS 4 and it wasn't a demolition.

I guess when your averaging the top edge of 11's and very low 12's (R8 V10) and mid to late 12's in things like the tuned RS4's or even standard B8 S5's over a quarter mile while getting into three figures, there really isn't that much difference in a straight line. It all seems to go by in a rush whichever car your in. I think that the MRC Stage 2 tuned S4/S5's may really challenge a standard R8 V10 in those circumstances especially with the autos as the big squidgy bit inside has less to screw up. Track is probably as much about the driver as it is the car so difficult to tell how they stack up but you would like to think that R8 has a reasonable advantage in that forum. Always annoys me to see the test drivers manually changing up as I imagine more often than not they are slowing the car down.
