Really wish i could have made this, but sadly i'll have a very sore ar$e & be somewhat wiped out after cycling from London to Paris.

Defo on the look out for a couple more UK track days before Spa/Ring in Oct as will need to kill my new OEM pads & i fancy fitting Pilot Super Sport Cup 2's before heading to Belgium.

Doing the ride for Ovarian Cancer Action. Me thinks 300 odd miles is going to hurt, but i'm sure some a few French beers each evening will help numb the pain.

Really excited whilst now getting a bit nervous. Chuffed i've exceeded my £1500 sponsorship goal:)

Let me know if you need any energy gels, carbo drinks, bottles or arm warmers etc as my events company has a unit full of them, so I can post you some up

Cheers Graeme. Think i'm pretty much sorted with Gels & Carb drinks as bought 2 boxes a few weeks ago, although i've no real idea how much is enough as not sure what i'll consume during the event. Got 2 bottles & not sure i'd suit arm warmers as all i can picture is FAME dayglo leg warmers :bigblink:

Off for a Pro Bike fit on Wednesday next week so that's no doubt going to help a lot.

Glycogen consumption (getting in energy at the same rate you use it) a bit of a hit and miss science as every person is very different
When I was racing Ironman, I did a number of tests with my coach at the time - I weighed about 68kgs (I'm certainly not that any more  ) and my carbohydrate uptake was around 60g per hour. A power bar gel (which i raced with) contained about 27g of carb and I could assume I'd get 20 of that in me and the rest down my front or not out that packet, so I had to hit one very 20mins to keep my 60g/hr rate up.
The big variable is heart rate, as the more you work, the more you consume, but also the harder it becomes for your stomach to digest
For measure, I could produce 215watts through my SRM at 140-145bpm using 60g/hr and sustain that for 4.5-5hrs racing on the bike and still be pretty topped up for the marathon afterwards
The rate you need is pretty linear with weight though, so if you're weighing in at 80, you'd probably want more like 3-4 per hour
As you'll be doing it at a social pace I assume with mates, you'll probably need less, but will want to keep that level up by also taking on carbo drinks and solid food

Best of luck with it, and if you decide you want some stuff, let me know and I'll post you some up no probs. Better to have it and not need it, then not have it and run out

Oh yeah, and for multi days on the saddle, vaseline is your friend and you'll want to apply it liberally every day before getting on the bike - oh-er ! :beerchug:
