Michelin Tyres No Pilot Super Sports

Post by Noyjatat » Tue Mar 31, 2015 3:17 pm

Went to go price up a set of Michelin Pilot Super Sports today only to find they didn't have any stock and on phoning the manufacturer it would be 10 weeks before any more would be released as they have stopped making them and that would be when the next gen would be released. Also the Pilot Sports have been stopped too.

So gonna go with Pirellis this time when I change the tyres in a week or two.

Anyone else on here to do with the industry able to confirm this? Mainly that theres no new stock only stock previously bought.

Have you tried tyreleader.com they have some in stock. I was quoted 12 weeks when I asked at my local tyre depot, and they deal direct with Michelin.

Having read a number of tyre reviews from this forum, Goodyears F1 Asymetric are preferred over Pirreli. But it's all down to personal preference

I just got 4 PSS from Tyreleader a couple of weeks ago, great prices too!!

And yeah I'd stay clear of the Pirelli's, not many people on here have good things to say about them, they can't all be wrong :piss:

I reckon you should try for the Goodyear F1 tyres, heard they are also very good.

PS2 is the only worthy alternative to SS IMO.

I had p zeros on my 996, they were good but not as good as Id hoped. They don't do ss in 996 wheel sizes unfortunately so probably going to put on ps2. Want to sell it though, so will be a little gutted if I can't get them!

I would agree about the Pirelli's but found in a lot of cases it was because the wrong ones were fitted and people didn't realise. They have a few different tyres that I know of and the majority are balanced. I will give them a go so I can give genuine feedback on them. If I am wrong I will be happy to come on here and say so as I will be putting on the performance ones. The regular P Zero's. Plus I am getting a good deal :D

It's a good deal because no-one wants to run them

Fair play for giving them a chance Gareth. I have twice, both Nero and Rosso and would never run another Pirelli tyre again - my only catastrophic tyre failure was a P-Zero. I remember you mentioning from your B7 days that there was no real difference between Conti's and PS2's, so perhaps your driving style is more Jenson Button and doesn't require every last ounce of outright grip.

Well done a lot more research into this also using my mates references who is in the tyre industry. My problem is Michelins are tough to find at the minute local to me. Bridgestones aren't even cat A in the wet anymore. Probabl the best place I found a lot of comprehensive info was using this site and a nice breakdown table of various positives and negatives tyre to tyre.

The other I am looking at is spacing and finding a tyre profile wall that is almost flat rather than rounded so I can use hubcentrics on the car.

I had the opposite problem. I got a puncture in one of the pirellis and couldn't get a single replacement anywhere. 10 weeks they quoted 8-10 weeks for replacement and that was every tyre supplier locally and online.
Opted for Michelin ps2's in the end and changed all 4. No issues getting them with Audi having stock and plenty available online for next day delivery.
Won't touch Pirelli again if I can avoid them

I also forgot to mention I was left broken down on the m40 with a puncture, replaced 2 fronts with ps2's then Changed the rears 2 months later after one of the rears had a torn sidewall. Prior to this I'd never had a tyre let me down, maybe just bad luck??
