Re: Expensive hobby
In the last 2 years mine has managed to eat a clutch, all the front suspension bushed, front and rear discs and pads, a couple of parking sensors, a full set of tyres and now the DRC going pop. That's without the seats being stolen and all the damage that went with itChrisW wrote:I can vouch for this, ive just booked mine into unit 20 for discs/pads all round, 4x upper wishbones, an engine mount, investigate grinding noise from left wheels, a service and firing of KW adjustable springs. I don't think i'll see much change from 5k..chris_m wrote:Personally, I think owning a car like this requires a 5k kitty for a rainy day. If you break into it, begin topping back up because you never know. 5k gets you nowhere. Should the worst happen and your tyres and breaks wear down the same time your cluch gives up and the DRC spews it's guts, that meagre 5k will vanish
I still wouldn't swap it for anything less than an R8

I think most of us on here have had those 4 figure bills, but it's all worth it when you get back in the driving seat with bits that have been sorted.

Re: Expensive hobby
Just had a major service with discs and pads all round. Despite the cost, I cant wait to pick it up tomorrow. Best car I've owned by far [GRINNING FACE WITH SMILING EYES]

Re: Expensive hobby
I've got a slush fund for the inevitable big bills that you'll get with these cars even if you use an indie rather than getting stiffed by a main dealer. Like any high performance car they're expensive to run. I think some people forget this because they're seen as 'family' cars, unlike Porsches and R8s for example which are automatically associated with high running costs. A colleague of mine's got an X5 which is also very expensive to run but doesn't have the enjoyment factor that RS4s have.
The worst thing to do is get an RS4 then expect to run it cheaply and without a slush fund. The love affair soon ends

It's amazing that even when they are working perfectly you can always find something to spend money on for them. mines running lovely at the momentall though I may need a clutch before too long) but whilst I didn't "need" anything I still went and bought new mirror plates as mine were corroding a bit !!

Re: Expensive hobby
I got mine on 50k and there is no record of clutch replacement or DRC. I am on 64k now and definitely need back disks and pads, front pads for sure, disks may last another set of pads. When I got the tracking done, the fella said I should get the suspension looked at as he thinks there is a wet patch on the back. To top that, I am at santa pod next month on the quarter mile. Had my car mapped last month and is at 436ps so I could be saying goodbye to the clutch and flywheel. Fun times ahead i think but bring it on eh...
