MMI-Jukebox advice

Post by Fliptop » Mon Mar 16, 2015 5:43 pm

My new B8 has the MMI with the 20GB Jukebox so I decided I'd like to copy the music across from the iPod that I had been using in my old Saab. The genuine Audi cables are an arm & a leg so I hit eBay and bought one with the female USB connector, thinking I could use that with my ipod USD lead and/or with a stick.

Anyway, plugged it in, it charges the iPod OK but the Media menu of the MMI doesn't recognise any connections.

It could be a duff cable, or I bought the wrong one THIS IS IT or I could have completely misunderstood how this is supposed to work. Anyone able to advise?

I think...though could be wrong (it happened once in 1978) that you can only copy from CDs. A bit crap I know, but hey..... Try a few searches on here

This might help

Its old but relevant, likely related to apple not allowing you to import directly. May be better to get the ipod files to CD somehow then copying to the JB

Thanks - that's really bloody irritating, mainly because my personal laptop died a while back and I've not yet replaced it, and my work laptop which also has my music on, is set up to encrypt anything copied onto USB sticks or SD cards inserted into it. Bugger.

And yes, I hate Apple's proprietary stance on everything. I only used an Ipod in the old car because I got it for free...

Thinking about this some more...what I don't understand is that the car isn't even recognising something as plugged into the USB. They do leads specially for the iPhone/iPod, so I would have thought it could at least play from the device, if not copy?

Might try my phone which is Windows 8, see if it recognises that...

Righto, ta...could be a duff cable then.

Will try the phone and see if that is recognised, otherwise will send the cable back.

So looks like it can see my phone, and the phone is charging, but it tells me that it's an unsupported device connected so I guess MMI doesn't support Windows 8 devices.

With the iPod, it's not even recognising anything as connected, so I still think I may have a duff cable. Is there more than one type of cable that will fit the MMI plug on these cars? I gather there have been various generations of MMI, and if they all use the same plug...but cables aren't interchangeable, that could confuse matters!
