Gearbox interior surround

Post by R56WUF » Sun Mar 08, 2015 6:00 pm

Hi all

Until yesterday the metallic trim that surrounds the gear lever was always warm to touch once the car had warmed. Yesterday I drove 500 miles and it was stone cold throughout. No difference in performance, car is driving perfectly. I've done 10,000 miles in a year and it's always been warm. Seems odd.

Any thoughts?

Who cares? The temperature of that piece of trim will tell you literally nothing.

Is it a function of the heating - doesn't the rear heater ducting go through there. So in cold weather, it'll be warmer and vice versa? With the million things that go wrong with the car, I'm sure we can find something "properly" wrong, if you want? :biggrin3:

Erm, I guess I care. If I didn't I probably wouldn't have asked the question...

Just seems stupid trying to diagnose a non existent fault based on the temperature of an interior piece of trim.

I should have kept my mouth shut. I'll sod off now.

Do your rear vents work ok? the ducting does indeed go straight under the gearbox surround.

I'm feeling a little disappointed in this thread!

Firstly where is Shop?? I would have expected him to have posted about how if you tap the fuel gauge twice, then re-programme the climate control, and finally wire in a small lemming you can get the electric sunroof to display the said trim temperature.

Next I would have expected a goodly round of Bam and Chunky sharing their inmost fantasies on the benefits or otherwise of a warm trim.....

And finally, where are the tuners/modifiers with a decent offering of a trim cooling system mysteriously linked to an turbo or two??

Come on guys - time to up our game!!

Dave
