Newb RS4 ownership qs

Post by richrocksmy » Thu Jan 15, 2015 3:37 pm

Hey,

New to the forum although have been a regular lurker over the last few months...

Couple of questions before I go ahead with purchase of a B8 RS4 -

I've had a cheap insurance quote from DirectLine, does anyone have any good or bad experiences with them? Their repair service in event of damage is with an approved repairer, not necessarily and Audi garage - another insurance company warned me about this, is it really a problem?

I've seen a few guys who live in London, what's your experience of performance car ownership in these parts? I'm going to be leaving it on the road outside my house on a quietish, non-main road in but am concerned about theft / vandalism. Is there anything I can do to reduce the risk?

Cheers

Hi Rich,

I am insured with Direct Line and have been for the last 12 cars, always good service and good prices as customers deal direct.

My new RS4 is insure FC with my wife as a named driver and business milage added (which is now sandard, never use to be) and I pay 342.00 for the year, which I think is a bargain for a 60k car with such performance and desirability.

I have claimed once in the last 6 years, which was my fault in the ice and snow in my rear wheel drive C63 when I did 12k worth of damage to the whole side and ripped of a wheel and susoension arm. I lao hS knock last year when I was nudge by an DH in a renault van, he tried to claim for a new front bumber but he only scratched my rear bumper paintowrk on my S4 which I poloished out, after some details to direct line they told him to do on and his insurance paid for my rear bumper to be polished and I refused to have it resprayed as it didn't need to I had the whole car setaild forless then the paintjob that its didn't need.

My expereince is very very good, others may disagree.

Hope this helps Rich

Cheers, Geoff

In 2013/2014 there was quite a spate of Bucket Seat thefts and attempted thefts from South London both East & West. Potentially if this happened to you, the insurance company would write the car off.

If I lived in that area, I'd certainly look into additional security measures like steering wheel locks and window security films. If the property was right for it, I'd seriously consider a car lift too which would add to the property value.

Thanks for the advice guys.

I pulled the trigger on the car at the end of Jan, so have the agonising wait for the call from the dealership...

I came to the conclusion (after much trawling of the internet) that a) If the car's going to get taken, it's going to get taken (but have ordered with privacy glass and am considering a steering wheel lock, decided against buckets so fingers crossed...) and b) I might be being overly sensitive - there's a porsche parked down the road, a C63 and a 7-Series both on 64 plates one road along so if those guys are happy with theirs on the road maybe I'll be alright!

Insurance I think is going to DirectLine - can't really find a strong enough case to spend upwards of £2k on insurance from Adrian Flux and the like!

Cheers again,

Rich

I'm new to this forum, and a new RS6 owner, finally took the plunge! With insurance I was surprised at how cheap it was, I did a search on Compare the Market, and AXA and SWIFT came up as cheapest, with windscreen cover and protected no claims. Last week when I checked, another company came up cheaper, so it changes from week to week. But since my last car was insured with AXA, and had no problems with them even after having to get my windscreen repaired, so stuck with them at under £300 !! Probably cos I aint a teenager anymore! A 'bit' older now!

I have a question too, my car needs an 80K cambelt and V Belt change, anyone know of any good and trusted places near south of birmingham or Stourbridge that I entrust my new baby tiger with, without costing too much of a chunk of the earth! :boohoo:

Oh yes, trackers are a good way of helping avoid theft i think!
