speeding
These clearly have nothing to do with safety, and everything to do with revenue generation. How long before these are on every stretch of road up and down the country?
Accidents are not caused by speed. Accidents are caused by driving without due care and attention, or driving beyond the safe limits of yourself and/or the vehicle. Speed alone doesn't ever kill - so why are the government so lax about targetting middle lane hoggers (driving without due care), or those driving on drink or drugs, whilst funding new initiatives to fleece the motorist for doing 80mph in a 70mph zone at 2am etc.

Re: speeding
Yeah, I saw that earlier, quite depressing.
What got me is how many sheep there are that totally believe that going over 70 is dangerous/reckless etc. They're all going on about the usual cars should be restricted to 70 bollocks. I wish they'd wake up and start thinking for themselves!!
Admittedly I use the far right side of the speedo a bit too often (too often in regards to chancing getting caught), but I can count the number of oh <beep> moments on 1 hand and most of them were long before i got the RS. As we all know, it's perfectly safe as long as you're looking a long way ahead for hazards and adjusting speed accordingly. Common sense.

Re: speeding
The 70mph limit was introduced when most cars were fitted with front drum brakes ffs - over 50 years ago.
Have a look at the highway code for stopping distances - you can practically double the speeds and still get the noted stopping distance in a modern car. For example, 60-0 according to the highway code is 240ft. In reality, in the rs4, it's 121ft. Isn't it about time some common sense was used?

Re: speeding
Every government sees it as a cash cow. Why change the speed limit, when you can just radically enforce the current one. As for middle lane drivers, the problem with that is it requires more police officers out and about..... In the current climate that ain't gonna happen.

Re: speeding
Agreed. 70 mph in the pouring rain tailgating the car in front like a bastard with your foglights on is fine. 11pm at night when there is zero traffic and you've set the cruise to 85, you get a ticket.

Re: speeding
Exactly, there are times that doing the speed limit is genuinely dangerous and the sheep that love speed limits dont slow down. People are conditioned to do the posted speed and don't have the ability to decide a safe speed for themselves :/

Re: speeding
That's part of the problem - people see it as "target speed", not a speed limit ...

Re: speeding
These cameras are linked to the variable speed limit system and don't prosecute you otherwise i.e. when you speed when there is no speed limit lit. See this article on Pistonheads:

However I absolutely detest how obsessed the
government and
moron magistrates w4nkers are with speeding. I have been done many times and fined in total in excess of £4k over the years and back in court on the 05/02/2015 for doing 80 in a 50.

Re: speeding
At the moment I am doing a lot of travelling ea h week and to be ho set I seem to spend more time doing 50 or less than 70. Seems the average speed cameras are starting to appear in other places as one of my regular routes to the Box Hill meet (A12) is going to be having load put in.
