For road, steels are more than enough

And anyone who has cooked their steels on the road, I'd suggest better pads and fluid, and some driving lessons
That was actually a bit misleading, and initially, both steels and ceramics have the ability to lock the tyres, and the abs system remains consistent between the two, so that measure was more an indication of tyre quality than a display prayers creating a shorter stooping distance
The benefits of ceramics in the case of that test was that the fade is obviously reduced and the power remains

And this is what makes the ceramics so much better, lack of fade!! Pads and fluid may help, but at the end of the day you pay your money you take your choice, I know what I would rather have

my R8 Spyder weighed in at 1850KG and it did 8 laps round the ring on Steels with uprated fluid and I had no fade

Brake hard, brake late
Ceramics = Braker harder, brake later.

^ incorrect

Ceramics = Braker hard, brake late, for longer

but I just told you my lardy arse cabby did 8 laps of the most demanding race track in the world.

I'm not an idiot, I've had C6 ceramics and x2 B7 ceramic cars. I know what they can do. but for the road, they are not necessary - that is not belittling any of their benefits ... but they don't all of a sudden give someone 50% more braking power as a layman might assume

Not saying you were an idiot HYFR. With 2 B7's in the garage, one with ceramics and one without I can then compare back to back on the same platform - does that not account for anything?

It all depends how and where do you drive! If you are driving in German autobahn, you can really feel the difference between steel brakes and ceramic brakes... It is also big difference between "old and new design" ceramic brakes RS6 C6 vs C7...

Read tests in a few magazines about RS5 (old technology calipers) - steel brakes, they are all complaining about brakes... To heavy car for 365mm discs and old 8 piston calipers :bigblink:

Cool

I do agree with the Ceramics not being necessary though as the standard RS brakes are fine for road use, I just think ceramics are better as an overall package.
