Water In mirror.. Any ideas

Post by jangol » Wed Feb 11, 2015 8:33 pm

Guys,

Just seen this earlier on, is it a pop out & drain??

Had a look on here seen a few threads about failing auto dimming mirrors shorting out etc.. But it appears to be still working (i.e., adjusting)..

Any pointers ideas would be helpful

Time for a new one. They're dead easy to fit.
Probably cheapest to get a complete unit off eBay, usually sold in pairs for a couple of hundred.

That's not water. It's the self dimmimg fluid.

Unfortunately the glass is no good and time for a new lens.

What he said....and the cheapest way to do it is a pair of complete units off a breaker/Ebay and DIY fit them. You'll also then have a spare for when the other fails.
IIRC, Your eyes will water if you get a price from Audi for new auto dimming glass.

i had this, and a easy way if your not bothered about auto dimming, pull your mirror glass out, remover the black plastic trim around the edge, carefully slide a blade or small driver between the two pieces of glass until they seperate, clean the glue from around the edge (i used a blade) pull the conductor plate off, give it a good glean with some glass polish bin the plastic and stick it back together look brand new for zero cost!

£750 for all 3 self-dimming mirrors...

Go to the breakers.
No matter where you go, there you are.

Agreed, mine looked the same when I bought it. Sourced blue tint heated glass and stick on back plates from Ebay for less than £20 delivered. Sod self-dimming, you shouldn't have other road users that close behind you anyway... it's an RS. :biggrin2:
