Servicing near Newbury, Berkshire.

Post by rsdreamer » Tue Mar 22, 2005 9:38 am

Hi, have recently purchased an S4 Avant, and would like some help in finding a sensible garage to carry out suspension / brake / servicing works in or around Newbury, Berkshire.

AMD would be an obvious choice, but they are little too far away for general works.

Any views would help.

Regarding Audi dealers, I have received negative reports about Ridgeway Audi in Newbury. I recently decided to has some work done by an Audi dealer and decided to give them a go. However getting hold of their service receptionists is a nightmare (you mostly have to leave a message), so I gave up.

I used Martins in Basingstoke instead (as I used to when I worked in Basingstoke). I cannot fault their service and they are reasonable on price.

I have heard good things about Martins (and also have to say their body-shop guy is very helpfull), and I use Reading Audi and cannot fault them for the work they have done.

Yes, which is a dramatic change from the previous guy who was unprofessional and (dare I say) incompetent. If it were not the fact they they had a new manager, I would not have returned there for some work recently (OK - it was only to paint a piece of trim I supplied, but work is still work).

I have heard negative reports about Reading Audi and won't go there now.

It's been a while now (maybe before this site started), but there was a post from a guy who took his S4 there for work, and they took it for a test drive and crashed it. That's bad enough but IIRC they weren't all that apologetic about it!

Since then I have simple heard a few reports that Reading Audi customer service is no better than any other manufacturer's (e.g. Ford). Personally I expect 'premium' service from an Audi dealer and that's what I get at Martin's. However the fact that you use Reading Audi and have good service is helpful news.

Nevertheless I still won't go there. As I'm sure you know, the traffic in and out of Reading at rush-hour is a PITA. I admit Basingstoke is great either, but it IS better.
