Unless you're wanting to get more HP, a standard rebuild by someone like Universal Turbos or Turbo Dynamics would be perfectly good.

If you want something a bit fancier, Dubbed Up Daz has some turbos from The Turbo Engineers - seem to be doing pretty well for him...

There's some info on here but there's more somewhere that is specific to your situation.

what's the mileage ? are these the original turbos the car came with? On another forum from the States, there's another whose turbo went bad, his was cca. 150k miles...getting itchy as i am close to that mileage as well.. :) any warning signs before biting the dust?

Leaky intercoolers, poor maintenance, wrong oil, not letting engine warm up / cool down sufficiently will all hasten turbo death.

83K. I bought at 55K, so I assume they are original. No signs at all until the squealing.

I have always serviced it regularly. Oil changes every in-between every service too. I always let it warm up, and give it chance to cool if I have been thrashing it.
However, it had a leaky intercooler when I bought it, on that same side, and I was not quick to fix it. That is probably related.

The car is back and running correctly.

Turbo refurb; two stock replacement cores £660: Turbo Force, Preston
Gearbox refurb; £2600 : Automatic Transmissions, Preston
Cam belt kit, water pump etc, turbo remove/replace (inc oil and filter change, due to warranty requirements); ~£500: Automatic Transmissions, Preston.
ITG Air filters to ease the flow; £80
Having a stunningly fast motor again; Priceless

I have to say, even though it was an expensive job, it's lovely to have a fully functioning estate again and I think I got pretty good value in total.

The guys at Automatic transmissions did a great job and worked tirelessly to get it back to me before Christmas, replacing the belt etc while the engine was out too. Unfortunately it had a sensor fault shortly afterwards but they resolved it for me promptly in the new year.
I had been waiting to test it fully until I got performance filters installed, I went for ITG, which fit perfectly.

I suppose it has lower transmission losses since it can now lock up fully the power still takes me aback when I plant it.

Seems very good value to me! Eases my fear a bit of when my turbos and gearbox decide they have had enough of life haha!

That's what I was thinking, pretty good value for the turbo rebuilds.
Gearbox was cheap too, is there a warranty on it?

I'm glad it's all sorted :)

Both the gearbox and the turbos have a 12 month warranty.
