Throtle body fault - common or unlikely?

Post by JCviggen » Tue Jan 13, 2015 4:38 pm

While I'm still abroad my mechanic is saying part 079133062B needs replacing. It's a TB and costs about a grand.

Is this a somewhat common issue or a rare fault? I suspect the car had a pretty long list of fault codes in it after a few limp mode events and an experiment with an unplugged MAF which made it worse. I'm not eager to run out and spend a grand to replace something that might not be faulty.

I'd get a used part but I have not enough time to get one sent to me before I'm flying back.

FWIW the car would go into limp after a bit of enthusiastic driving, not when nanny driving.

The TB 'should' be fixable but as you say, you've not go the time.
In all my reading of the forum, I've never seen anyone post about a TB failing on a B7.
No matter where you go, there you are.

There's enough time to fix stuff where the car is, I've just not got time to get a replacement before I go back there. Once I am back in Moscow my options are limited as it will take a month to order a new one there from Germany.

I searched but didn't find much on this topic.

Unlikely I'd say. Do you know the fault codes it was recording?

I had the extact problem with my throttle body in Novemeber, stalled, limp mode, EPC light etc intermittant
Audi took it apart, cleaned and lubricated it and tested it on a test bed. The throttle was sticking, bought a new for £1k, installed it. Over 1k miles later no problems.

Thanks!

Trying to secure a used one which might get delivered just before I have to leave for the airport. Audi needs 3 days to get me one. The error seems fairly rare in any case so I'd rather try used for 1/8th the price first.

Meanwhile I've asked my mechanic for the fault codes.

3 days. Mine came in 24 hrs.
My one was fixed by Audi. I'd send you mine to try but I'm in Berlin until Friday if thats any good.
The only thing is I've not tried it since fixed so if you want it there is a risk it may fail.
If it does work, run it for a while and dosh me up later as its only sitting in a box in my garage.

Under his avatar it says he is in Belgium & Russia. Sounds like you are closer now than when in Cov.

At the moment I'm in the North of Italy, driving a rental back through Germany tomorrow and from there to Belgium. Berlin is well out of the way I'm afraid. It's already a 9-10 hour trip. I'm actually picking up a new MAF from a German dealer on the Swiss border too :D Another thing hat takes a month to order from Russia.

In my internet searches I did find some semi useful info, namely that the very same Pierburg part is also used by GM (Some LSx engines) and it's less than half price. More like 1/3rd actually...significant on a 1K part. Doesn't help me right now but for those who aren't in a hurry...

It's a Pierburg 7.14423.07.0 also known as:

AUDI 079 133 062 B
CHEVROLET 12570790
GENERAL MOTORS 12570790
OPEL 12570790
PIERBURG 7.14423.00.0
PIERBURG 7.14423.00
PIERBURG 714423000
PIERBURG 71442300
PIERBURG 714408000
ACDELCO 217-1617

A bloke in Germany has sent me a used 079133062A, 50-50 whether it will arrive in time on Thurs. If it does it should do the job until my next visit to the automotively civilized world. If not there's another one used in Riga, Latvia which I might be able to get in a week or 2 from acquaintances who live there.

Yeah - I had a tb go in my s6 which iirc is either very very similar or exactly the same - part number 079133062C on mine. Yours is 079133062B from above. I had lots of faffing around with misfires and idle problems on the other side of the V at another point, but this was a straight up TB fail.

if you are really stuck, i do have spare.
