Warranty Advice
Hi all,
Looking for some advice.
I wanted to know if by remapping mu B8 RS4 would it invalidate my warranty with Audi?
Any experience in this matter would also be very helpful.

Re: Warranty Advice
You roll the dice. Technically yes, though reality will be down to relationship with dealer and the nature of any issue that occurs.
Don't be expecting them to honour and engine or transmission claim!

Re: Warranty Advice
I would also imagine the answer is yes but I always thought the maps were not detectable on the diagnostics that the dealer did?
Are you expecting some decent gains, I always thought the RS4 was maxed out already?
I'd be interested

Re: Warranty Advice
warranty will be void.....
But only if they find the remapped file, but they shouldn't if its been written properly..
Gains on improved throttle response and speed limiter could be lifted also - on RS3's were getting great results with our APR work on power and the DSG gearbox.

That's because it's blown, no such gains to be had on the 4 thoughGains on improved throttle response and speed limiter could be lifted also - on RS3's were getting great results with our APR work on power and the DSG gearbox.

Re: Warranty Advice
Correct but gains to be had from gearbox as well as the small engine results too.RIV wrote:That's because it's blown, no such gains to be had on the 4 thoughGains on improved throttle response and speed limiter could be lifted also - on RS3's were getting great results with our APR work on power and the DSG gearbox.

Re: Warranty Advice
Personally I'd be wary of remapping any modern car from Audi, especially one that has S-Tronic.
Audi have recently released the S-Tronic into the R8 (it used to be the R-Tronic), but cars such as the BiTdi still have the Tiptronic. The reason for all of this is the torque levels the box can handle within safe limits, which in truth it's still relatively limited. The S-Tronic has gone through minor upgrades, but it's still fundamentally the same box, which anybody who has read Chris Harris's blog on the 'lunching' of his S4's S-Tronic box after a remap, will tell you was properly borked after his 'upgrades'.
Another point to consider is the read/write code protection Audi now have on all new cars. Everything is logged (now read & write, not just write) and cannot be wiped, regardless what a tuner may tell you.
With both those points taken into consideration I personally think the risk is too great to remap. You're better off releasing as much power from 'breathing' methods such as the exhaust etc. This will see you more useful gains without risking your S-Tronic box.

'15 B8 RS4 - SOLD
Re: Warranty Advice
Such a small amount of power increase by mapping will have no dramatic affects on the box
Supercharged s4 is a totally different power hike

Re: Warranty Advice
Whilst 25bhp sounds attractive in the grand scheme of things it's 5% more.
In my very limited driving of my new car,it doesn't lack power but it does lack Torque (as discussed in numerous places). There is an amazing power band high up in the rev range, would be nice to have that a bit lower down. At times the car almost feels like it has Turbo lag, this is of course caused by the kick down delay.
I'm still not at all sure I'm driving the car correctly (I've never had an auto before) so perhaps time will show me a better way to extract the most from the engine

Re: Warranty Advice
My understanding is that unless you're doing exhaust, filters etc too, Ecu map on b8 rs4 harvests negligible gain other than delimiting torque in 1st/2nd
If you're planning on going through Swindon Audi for warranty work, then they're pretty active with Ecu checks too, so would flag up any changes
Also, many of the updates they routinely make periodically to the cars programming are ecu based, and from what I understand (my knowledge on flash ECU changes are limited, admittedly), they don't just update parts of the program, but completely overwrite the whole ecu, so you may go in for something as simple as the recent airbag prog update, and they completely overwrite your new (expensive) map back to standard
Worth having a talk with MRC or Kim at QST and see what they say
How you liking the new car? I've been keeping an eye out when I'm over your way

Re: Warranty Advice
First I've heard, the tuning guys I know reckon that nothing can be detected if it's done properly, but I am guessing that it will now log anyone tampering with the ECU? I wonder how long before the boffins figure way around it.kmpowell wrote: Another point to consider is the read/write code protection Audi now have on all new cars.
