Traction
Traction
At the risk of being shot down for this i am just going to put it out there. Over the years i have owned a number of 'quick' cars 996/997 Turbo, GTR *3, RS4's/RS6's, M3's/M5's. My daily driver is currently a C7 RS6. I am running Pirelli's on 21" rims. I have also had the Conti's. I have been a tad suprised recently by the lack of traction at the rear (up to 3rd on some occasions) I also find the steering to be poor (tram-lining/fidgety and general lack of feel). Has anyone had similar issues or am i just a cr*p driver ??!! or have a bought a duff motor (wouldn't be the first)
Re: Traction
Tbh I've noticed this too in my tuned c6.
It's entirely down To the tyres, pirellis work above 10 degrees best, in the current temperatures they slide all over the place, even at 80mph on kick down there is some loss of traction.
If you are really worried put some winter boots on, but for now I'm just enjoying the sliding as i don't have to use th car daily

Re: Traction
I hear what you are saying, but this was happening before the cold weather came bringing the slick road surfaces with it. Never had the same issues with the C6 RS6 - mind you I didn't have the same level of tune as you.
Re: Traction
Could be driver skill, or lack of it lol.
My quasqai is on winter tyres and is unreal, even on icy roads this morning.

Re: Traction
I didn't have any traction problems at all during the warm weather. I did *think* I had a massive tram lining problem when I first got the car but it was lane change assist stopping me from .. well... changing lane
I would not expect the car to be all that great now in the UK with the summer tyres (I sold it on a few months ago). My 911, whilst better than my old two wheel drive M5, is not exactly great in the current temps and spins all four wheels in the snow

Re: Traction
When I change from my summer (275 Dunlop Sportmaxx) to winter (255 Nokian Hakkapelitta - one of the best winter tires) there's a humongous difference.
Don't know if that helped at all... but there you have it. Regards from Sweden -10C today.

Re: Traction
FON.
Rule 1.
Put winter tyres on, errrrrrm, for winter.
Then put GYF1s or Mitchy PS2 or PSS tyres on for summer. Getting taking done after each tyre change.
Job done.

Yup, winter tyres will help hugely this time of year.
What make of summer tyre can you get for the c7? Are you really limited?

Re: Traction
Thanks for the replies folks. Might has mislead you with this. It's not just happened since the temps dropped. I bought the car back in September it has happened since then. I accept that at this time of year grip/traction will be an issue unless i move to winter tyres. I don't have any issue with traction (or lack of) during winter months - but September !!???!!
I have checked tyre pressure on a regular basis. Have followed manufacturer guidelines and also tried more/less pressure with no significant change. All tyres have at least 6.5 mm tread. I have tried Pirelli, Conti and will probably try the Dunlop's as i had them on my previous B8 RS4 and were fine.
This is defo not a winter issue folks - it is a combination of issues maybe all tyre related or maybe something more sinister (expensive) anyone heard of any DRC issues ?
