The valve gear and also the crank mechanism, is not for the higher load, laid out through turbochargers.
For the money what I output for a turbo conversion, I can buy also a V10 that then has also 650 PS for myself.![]()

For me personally it comes to tuning the suction motor because all tuner always say, tuning in suction motors does not work.
The cost of the increase in output of the V8 engine, are at 10,000, - to 11,000, - be EUR.
Dear durable 500 hp with a full throttle from Hamburg to Munich without possible damage to the engine.

But that isn't safe only because it's NA. Any forced induction engine would be fine if it's tuned well. Comes down to proper ingnition timing, fuel mapping and boost level to avoid knocking. As long as that's good and the cooling system is up to it you could have 600+bhp and do full throttle runs all day long.
It's cool you want to tune it as an NA engine as there's some advantages to that (provided you don't start compromising those advantages for all out power), but saying you don't want to turbo it because it might randomly crash into a barrier or detonate the engine is stupid. If you were to say I want to keep it NA, nobody will question it.

The cooling system in the R8 is borderline.
There are many R8 have received a new cooling water tank, because this is broken because of high temperatures.
The locked exhaust gas through the turbocharger loads the motor strong when the head gasket is not changed. (Water channels)

Yer I did give this thread the benefit of the doubt before but this is getting a bit silly.
Adding a turbo doesn't mean you'll blow the car up! All it does is give the engine denser air! The volume of air is fully under the tuners control.

I would like to see a tuner in the two control units can install boost control, never.
The boost pressure control is via fixed set pressure cans without N75.
And again to understanding the water cooling, so the water pump is too small.
The head gaskets must be changed to the fow to stabilize the temperature budget by the turbocharger.

Tom, call me stupid but if you can get the inlet temperature cool enough by means of trick intercoolers for turbo application and if necessary also use water meth injection then you won't need to worry about the water pump not being man enough?.Speedr8 wrote:Hi

Also, if turbo boost is kept at a sensible amount then the head gasket will be fine too.
To limit boost... use your feet

The pent-up gas before turbocharger, the cylinder heads, especially heat up the exhaust ports.
Current Temperature is released into the cooling water, but not quickly disposed of, as the water coolers are three feet away.
But this is only a point that must be considered in a turbo conversion.
A Turbo conversion costs twice as much as a new motor and
in the event of damage, the customer has his new engine, already paid.

Tom, I have a R8 GT and love the way it drives in terms of power delivery and if turbo charged/ supercharged then I would think it will be a harder car to drive on the limit. I just don't get you spending all that money upgrading the V8 when you can swap it for a V10 and be done/happy.

The R-Tronic box IMO is great when you are gunning it. You just have to treat it like a manual lifting off a little then back on gas to get a seamless change. I have had a race TCU tune which has improved it massively especially slow speed round town. TBO, the GT is not a car for one to pot around in so with that in mind, it's a great gearbox to have. YES the S-Tronic is a better, smoother quicker gearbox BUT then your grandmother can drive it well unlike the R-Tronic.
