Where next?
Where next?
Well I may be looking for another car soon and wouldn't mind a bit of advice if possible. I have a b7 rs4 atm. Don't get me wrong, I love it on almost every way, so much that I may even try to keep it as well as getting something newer as there is nothing newer that ticks the same boxes. I know I am putting a bit of a pick and mix here but in mind are firstly a 997 911 turbo (way different I know) second the f10 m5 (not too different in practicality, just looks so bland) and third which may come as a surprise the Nissan gtr. I understand that it is probably better in all ways than the other 2 but I simply do not like Nissan cars. This car maybe should be just branded a gtr as in 'this is not a Nissan' but still, I guess that's just me. Even suggestions to cars with performance no less than mentioned and maybe limited at 50k. Cheers guys.

Re: Where next?
Mate, go and drive the three cars you've listed as potentials. All very different characters and levels of practicality. Really depends what you need, but driving the three of them will show you how you feel about the performance delivery of each. Three great cars for a starting point.
Re: Where next?
You say 3 different cars but they are probably the 3 most common cars ex B7 rs4 drivers go for other than other Audi RSs.
Re: Where next?
Yeah? I went throuh a phase of 'm5 is definitely next' but now I just don't know. Different again but if I had the money, it would be a new rs6 but is out of the question. The 911 has swayed me as it doesn't need to be that practical, I have other modes for that. Then I thought again, I can have the same or better performance in a cheaper gtr. Althouh I havent researched enough into running costs for servicing and more important, reliability on the gtr etc.MikeFish wrote:You say 3 different cars but they are probably the 3 most common cars ex B7 rs4 drivers go for other than other Audi RSs.

Fair point mate, everyone is different after all. I am not really the kind to go around garages test driving motors. I probably give off the 'as if' impression unless that's just self confidence issuesmarc1 wrote:Mate, go and drive the three cars you've listed as potentials. Re: Where next?
I'd personally rule out the M5 completely - way too big and fast to use on uk fun roads and looks quite bland (that may be a positive to you though) - plus, the fact the sound is pumped through the speakers would annoy me daily
If you can try a 997.2 Turbo S, they're unbeleivably fast and super well screwed together
Not much shy of a lightly modded GTR will stay in sight off the lights unless you're talking Lambos or Ferraris, and even they're similary paced
Great build quality and it's an event to drive a Porsche more than the other two
Gtr's are super fast, but you have to be a GTR type to ignore the <beep> build quality, the fact it's huge and all the little foibles they have. A lightly modded one will be the fastest thing at most track days and a million kids with baseball caps will want to fist bump you and everyone will want to race you on the road.
Personally, I'd get to an OPC, BMW dealer and a garage with a GTR to have a try of them all
I know you don't like going round dealers, but it's the only way to really try them unless you've generous mates with them
What about a C7 RS6 if you're thinking of spending up and want serious pace and I reckon they'll be £50ish next year ?

Re: Where next?
Hi Graeme.
Thanks for the input mate. The logic of the m5 really is for how practical it is, pace and build quality. Yeah it is bland for my liking. If only it looked as menacing as the m3... Not much to go by but I had a e60 530d and currently have a E36 m3 5 speed saloon and love it. My mate has a E90 m3 and it is a great machine. I am a bit of a M fan to be honest as well. I like to tinker though and the fact that you cant do much with the m3 or rs4 kind of upsets me
The GTR as you mentioned, I just don't think I could live with it. The porsche I have never been a fan of until more recently. I go clay shooting on a sunday and if I can't get my 12g in the boot, that would be a big problem ha. Apart from the size, everything else about the 997 floats my boat to be honest.
I have my rs4 booked into MRC for a CAF and stage 2 map etc but I am not expecting miracles.
I was thinking about the rs6 like you mentioned. Beyond my budget mind but yeah, I guess in 12 months or so and will likely be within that If i can hang on that long.

I think the gangsters choice of guns are normally sawn offs, so Porsche probably didn't think of full length barrelschris_m wrote:Hi Graeme.

Would a gun case not fit across rear seats though ?

What would thoughts be on the C6 RS6 saloon? I know the handling won't be as sharp as the RS4 but surely this can be improved some? There seems to be some cracking low mileage examples out there for not too much money.

Re: Where next?
You can do a lot, but you cannot hide the two plus tonnes. It's a fat bastard and nothing can change that. However it's comfortable and rapid, in a straight line.
If you're after dynamics then C6 is not for you.

Re: Where next?
Fair point mate cheers. The m5 i mentioned is about the same weight, as is even the c7 rs6 so kind of thought that significant improvements might be achievable but as you say, 2 tonne is a lot of weight to throw around. I may be being over critical as in reality, even on track I will unlikely be pushing the car to it's limits no matter what I get.
