Misano red facelift order

Post by gorun01 » Wed Dec 03, 2014 11:08 am

Hi guys, this is my first post and my first Audi. I am very excited and want to share the details of my configuration. I come from a W166 ML63 PP and a Jag XFR previously. I have been drooling over the RS6 ever since the C6 and now that I got the chance to own a facelifted C7 I decided to take the jump. Unfortunately March delivery is the best that the dealer could offer. First on the colour, after seeing a C7 in red with the carbon pack my mind was made up for me. I also like the Sepang and the Prism silver but the red with dark detailing is just deadly in person. I honestly don't care about resale value as I intend to keep the car for a while. The only thing that bugs me about the car is the plastic dash and the fact that there is no option to have it in leather. I don't want to sound like a snob but it is a big omission on Audi's behalf on such an expensive car. It would have gone so nicely with the otherwise first rate Audi interior.

On to the options:

- Dynamic pack plus- wanted the ceramics as I do a lot of high speed autobahn driving but had reservations about the dynamic steering (although I have enjoyed the AS systems in BMW's that I have owned in the past and Audi's system seems to be getting an equal amount of bad press so it will probably be ok). I was also sceptical about the DRC but a short test drive in a friend's C7 RS6 proved that it was fine when left in comfort.
- black honeycomb leather with grey stitching- I don't like the way alcantara wears on seats hence these
- 21 wheels black painted to go with the overall red black look
- 3 extra years warranty, ceramics can cost a fortune if they chip so I wanted to stay on the safe side + as I said I intend this one to be a keeper
- side assist + pre sense rear - drove an A8 rental with active lane assist which felt very unnatural and dangerous at times and I couldn't find an option to turn it off (maybe there is one) so I went with this basic safety pack
- black exterior pack + black mirrors - I would have gone for the carbon alternatives ideally but I had to do damage control at some point and the latter were just too expensive
- alcantara headliner- had it in the Jag and not the Merc and I have to say that it gives a premium feel to the interior
- comfort pack- Bose should be just fine
- comfort key- debated this as thieves have started taking advantage of the system but ultimately felt that the convenience that this offers would justify the risk
- some leather pack that I can't remember the name of- you basically get the lower part of the dash in leather and also the central console
- sport exhaust- no brainer
- park assist
- camera
- tinted rear windows- didnt go for the double glazing as it required some phone box which was about 450 Eur extra
- soft close doors
- side rear airbags- for the kids
- sun blinds in the back
- a second set of 21s with winter tyres- a must where I live. I would have gone for 20s but the ones Audi offered were narrower with 245 tyres and the car would look stupid on them.

What I didn't go for and why:

- HUD, I like it in my wives X5 but the way Audi have integrated it or rather not integrated it in the dash of the RS6 destroys the smooth line of the whole dash. plus Audis have a very good central display so I doubt this feature would be greatly missed
- Panorama roof - It would have been nice for the kids but they spend more time in my wife's car plus adding 100kg on the roof of a high performance car like the RS6 is probably not the best idea, also no sunroof no chance of creaks
- automatic cruise control - I generally move faster than other traffic plus we don't get many motorway traffic jams. I would not use it in the city

Things I would have liked but couldn't stomach the price:

- leather with red stitching - you have to add red seat belts and some other things with it and it ultimately worked out to +10k Euro
- carbon pack + carbon mirrors 6k Euro (black pack + mirrors 900 euro)

Hope I have not bored you with my explanations, will chime in with pictures in three very long months...

nice one - FON

black and red is definitely a great combination.

One thing, on the extended warranty, does it explicitly mention brakes?
just i would assume they are a consumable and not covered in the same way other parts fo the car are. At best i would expect some good will from Audi/dealer, but would be surprised if they would cover the cost of a set of ceramics, unless there was a fundamental flaw in the manufacturing. Pretty sure someone on the C6 forum had to foot the big for a chip despite being under warranty (think it was Amar, but could be wrong).

Haha nice one, good to be here.

A friend got a ceramic disk replaced under warranty because a flake came off one of the disks. So I hope this is not an exception...

Awesome spec- enjoy...when it arrives!

Not sure if you have seen this article- http://fourtitude.com/features/Reviews_ ... an-europe/. It says that the HUD is now more integrated than before. I think it is still laid on to the dash rather than "moulded" in(there is a partial shot of the HUD in the article).

I wish Audi had done a better job of integrating the HUD as I really would have spec’d it. 3 months in and wish I had it. I am too busy hanging on and scanning the road to look down and see what speed I am actually doing. I am by no means a speed freak, but it is so easy to be going too fast without realising it. In the blink of an eye you are way over the speed limit (not that I have dared blink yet while driving it!).

I set the speed alert just below the instant ban threshold in the UK- probably will make little difference but at least I know I should be backing off.

Thanks. There are good pictures of it in the gallery of the article. Still sticks out like a sore thumb.

Black and red is one of the best combos - the carbon is awesome but normal black optics should work equally well.

Great spec although if you do a lot of driving on motorways in England I would say double glazing is a must. I know its a different car but the road noise in my C6 was awful without double glazing on our rubbish roads and certainly not good enough for an £80k car. If you are on the continent it won't be such a worry.

Here you go. Mine has the aluminium pack. Not got loads of pics at present. This pic was before the sports exhaust went on. Next to my other pride and joy, the SL :)

Brabus conversion last year full interior/exterior but went Weistec Supercharger and loads of other bits. Originally SL55 AMG. All parts brought direct from Brabus. Small fortune but just love it too much so invested and modernised it. 722bhp/744lbs torque with more to come. Will put some other pics if you like. The V12 is very heavy front end where the V8 has a better balance.

Ollys, ref your comment about noise, I am pleasantly surprised how quiet the car is compared to the C6. I don't have the sports exhaust however, but if i did have have it i'd want to hear it!

Sweet rides TSL thanks for the pictures. Red definitely looks right on the C7 especially when coupled with the 21s. As far as road noise is concerned does double glazing really make that much of a difference, can C7 owners please share their experience. We don't wanna drown out that sports exhaust too much after all :rocker:

Looks stunning.

Never really liked Red Audi's but it suits the C7 RS6. Still think i'd want to go Blue though.
