20" winter tyre options

Post by Graeme4130 » Wed Nov 26, 2014 10:12 pm

As much as I was planning on using the wife's car over the limited snowy period we get in the uk, I suspect that we're looking at a colder and longer than average snowed in period this year, so might need my car after all
Also, like Smudge, I might take a drive over to the Swiss alps at some point (champery)

What are people recommending as 20" winters that I'll just swap onto my VSpokes and then swap out again in march'ish ?

Cheers

Graeme

It's very limited in 265/30/20

Basically you're looking at Continental 830's. I paid £210 a tyre delivered for mine. Seem as good as all the other winter tyres on my other cars.

^^^ Agreed ^^^

[These Conti’s are Audi ‘specific size’ as I understand, so may be scarce supply ....though UK is one of Aud’s larger markets - perhaps not?:-) ]

The RS4 is a 265. It'd be utterly retarded to go up a width for winter.....

Looks like Pirelli's are now also available in a 265 as another option.

Looks like no where seems to have stock of the Pirrellis or Conti's until some time in January
Little Glen, do you have stock of any in a 265 ?

Also, as another option, are any of you wheel experts able to tell me if this is a straight fit (i.e. same offset etc) ;

I've only had the RS4 a couple of weeks now but yesterday I ordered my winter package - 19" team dynamics imola with dunlop winter sport 3d from wheelbasealloys (great company to deal with; used them last year for supplying winters for our A1). Decided to go for 235/40s as prefer the narrower profile in winter. Ran the winter dunlops on my old WRX STI and couldn’t fault them. Hoping the RS is as much fun in the snow as the scooby was on winter tyres.

Have a look on www.oponeo.co.uk/ or www.tyreleader.co.uk

Oponeo supplied my conti's, but i've used tyreleader a few times too for tyres and also wheels with no issues.

RS5 wheels are exactly the same wheels as RS4, so no fitment issues, but they will be a 275, as thats the RS5 oem tyre size.

These are worth a look..... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Audi-20-Inch- ... 27f002c326

Cheers for the link. The ebay one you've posted looks exactly like the one I found, but a few hundred quid cheaper :)
Going to 275 shouldn't cause an issue as I don't use spacers I'd assume

After spending a couple of weeks trying to get hold of the Michelin (which would have been my preference) 265/30/20s I gave up as there seemed to be no stock anywhere and went with the Conti 830s. They all seem to be "R01" tagged so are presumably an RS-specific tyre. Whole set including fitting was about £950 from MyTyres.

I was pleasantly surprised at how many sets of winters were piled up in the tyre-fitters. A few years ago everyone looked at me like I was a Martian when mentioning winter tyres but their use seems to be far more common in the UK now, particularly among skiers and owners of high-performance cars.
