Placed my order for a Suzuka. Questions about options

Post by nwk00 » Sun Oct 13, 2013 7:28 pm

1) Badge deletion option is for the rear only? What about the one on the front grill?

2) I notice that in Chris Haris video there is an option for differential on the screen seletcion. I didn't notice this on my test drive. Which option will give me this setting?

3) Are all the 20" wheels cast? Only the stock 19" is forged?

4) In the sports package the 20" is part of the package. Is the sports suspension tuned to work with the 20" only?

thanks and can't wait!

1. No idea, assume its front and back.
2. Sports diff and Audi Drive Select are standard.
3. Believe so.
4. By Sports suspension you mean DRC? No. You could order DRC without 20s.

Hi
Firstly, great choice of colour (I have a suzuka B8 RS4 too :beerchug: )

The model delete is all exterior, so front and rear, but you, of course, keep all the interior marks (Steering wheel, seats)
I'm not sure about kick plates, I think they remain, but I'm not 100%

Both 19's and 20's are Forged and weight difference (if that's your concern for unsprung weight) is negligible and mainly offset by weight reduction in tyre. I've driven cars on 19's (mine has 20's) and I'd say the car rides better on 19's and that was a DRC car, which in the sports pack comes with 20's
FWIW, i beleive the Vspoke wheel to be lighter than the rotors, but you're probably talking 50-100g of so at most as most of the weight of the wheel is in the rim, which would be near identical between the two

Hope this helps ?

1) In the UK configurator, it said "deletion of model and technology designation at rear". I thought that's quite a weird request because if someone wants to delete it they will most likely want to remove the front and rear model designation. Have you done this and can you confirm that it's both front and back?

3) In my dealer's options list they listed both the stock 19" and the optional 20" as cast. In the brochure from the dealer, the 19" is listed as forged and 20" as cast. Ideally I would like the 20" but it seems to be cast. And now on this thread there are differing views. Can someone else also confirm? The local dealer rep is not sure himself.

thanks

I purchased new (albeit Audi A4) a few years ago and selected model delete. SLine badges remained on the exterior sides and front, only thing removed was the 2.0TFSI badge from the rear. Im pretty confident it's just the rear badges when you select model delete.

The front badge is just clipped-on and sits on the grille...peasy to take off yourself. AFAIK there are no side badges on the B8 so that should be it.

I didn't delete the model on mine, but did consider it and also clarified with the dealer at the time that it was front and rear. However, dealers are not always the holy grail of information as we've no doubt all found out in the past. Maybe worth contacting Audi uk instead - try Craig.westwood@audi.co.uk
He's after sales, but a good guy and will point you in the right direction

The words 'forged' can be misleading on mainstream alloy wheels as Audi's forged wheels are actually cast as the front face and the rim is then flow formed and forged out into the right shape. It's not like if you bought forged ferrari wheels or something like that where they're forged from a blank billet to ensure structural uniformity.
Yes, it makes them a little lighter, but it's not much
They're still made with a low quality alsi17mg or alsi11mg material if I remember correctly, but the flow forming allows you to make a slightly thinner rim (down from 4.5mm to around 3.8 or 4ish iirc)

I think it's a fair assumption though, that the 20" will be the same or better manuf method to the base spec 19"
The only measure though is that I found the 19" wheeled car to ride much better than the 20's due to the extra compliency afforded by the taller sidewalls. My car's on Pirreli pzero's at the mo, which are known for a a stiffer sidewall, so I'll change them for Michelin PS2's soon as this might take some of the crashiness of the secondary ride out. It's not a great deal though and the car still rides 'ok'

Your best bet for clarification is to check with Audi uk as if you ask 5 dealers, you'll get 5 different answers and see if your dealer can source you a 19" wheeled car to try

Super sports are only just available in that size and I've had the PS2's before on my B7
I'll see what deal I can get first

Picking up on old thread.
So is the final consensus / confirmation that the 20” V-Spokes are cast and not forged?
[Had the understanding - from Audi Dealer - that they were forged, but local Wheel & Tire shop - where I’ve ordered forged 3 piece - maintains that the OEM originals are cast. ......guess I’ll find out when fitting new rims a week from now, but curiosity getting the better of me in advance].

on the wheel weights - seen other threads on this which had the standard 19's as forged and the 20's as cast.

Also that the standards are a few kg's lighter.

One thread (not the one I recall seeing - and perhaps it was also on another Audi forum - maybe the Oz one) and thanks to nwk00, has the details as:

[Alternatives for wheels
by nwk00 » Wed Nov 20, 2013 9:39 pm

Car coming in next year and I am already thinking of changes

I had the dealer measure the stock 19" and he said it's 10.9kg and the Vspoke 20" is 14.1kg. This is just wheels alone without tires. I checked at Tirerack.com and they have high performance tires that are very close in weight even if one is 19" and one is 20". So it becomes an apple to apple comparison for the wheel choice.

I didn't go with any 20" in the end because it doesn't make sense to get heavier rims when I went the extra length to get the carbon brakes, even though I love the V spokes and the Rotors.

So my question is, are there any aftermarket wheels that is lighter than stock 19"? ]

hope that assists. It was a facto in me going for the standards, plus I really like the look of the standard 19s, along with the ride blah blah blah

Hi and welcome!

When you're back in the car press the "car" button on the MMI, "Audi Drive Select" will appear with the modes comfort, auto dynamic and individual. Then press the bottom right corner button labelled "setup indiv" and you can tailor your own set up. One of these items is the quattro sports diff.

When you getting delivery?
